very disappointed

I went here for lunch back in August and it wasn't bad, however last night I went back to have dinner. Talk about disappointing! First of all some of the seats were up on the tables so it looked like they were in the middle of closing, yet it was only 6:00 or so. I ordered the spagetti with meat sauce. The sauce was very thin, like it had been thinned with water. It tasted very, very bland. The pasta was overcooked and gummy. The waitress forgot to bring parmesan cheese, I had to ask her for it, then it took her about 5 minutes to find it and bring to the table. The meal was supposed to include a roll which she didn't bring. I had to ask for the roll. She then brought a roll without butter. The roll had been microwaved to the point that it was very doughy. The other party ordered a milkshake only to be told the milkshake machine was broken. After our meal we asked about dessert. We were told bluntly "there is none". I've never ever been to a restaurant where there isn't ANY dessert. The waitress said the "owner's mother makes the desserts and she was on vacation". Therefore no dessert. I had heard such good things about Ted's so I was totally taken aback by the poor service and the awful food. I guess it's under new management and I would be surprised if this restaurant survives.

I have seen it all...now!

I waited over 15 minutes to recieve a cold breakfast.i dipped the toast in my egg and returned the meal because it was cold.Told the waitress I didnt have another 15 minutes to wait so would just drink the coffee.Upon recieving the bill I noticed I was charged 1.25 for the toast. When I asked to talk to the owner she went away and came back a few minutes later and told me he had left. Are you joking?I paid the bill because there was nothing wrong with the waitresses service and I didnt want it to come out of her pocket. What a way to run a business. You not only lost myself as a customer you lost the patronage of ever single person I tell and believe me I am telling everyone I know.It wasnt the 1.25 that is the problem. It was the audacity of the owner to even think to charge me for biting the toast.I have to say that years ago it was a great place to go.

Best Diner Ever!

This place has the best coffee ever! Not only are the meals dirt cheap, they are massive in size and are of superior quality! I love the look and feel of the restaurant, very quaint and cottage-like, and homey! The staff are very friendly and provide great, quick service. Definitely will be returning! :)

Its a small community type restaurant, known for their breakfasts and home-fashioned meals. It's pretty small and tends to get busy during the weekends (large families take up the tables for long periods of time) The price range is pretty cheap, as I expect though. I ordered a cheese omlette and was disgusted when I saw it (even more so when I tasted it!) They used gross processed cheese in the omlette and I quickly lost my appetite. I shouldve stuck with the basics. Oh well, Ill go again just because its a cute place with cheap breakfast.

The Greek salad was excellent, just the right amount of dressing. The chicken was a tiny bit dry, but the vegetables were not overdone and the mashed were good tasting, obviously not powdered. The Club soda could have been fizzier. Ted's is best for breakfasts, and their coffee is great! It is a good place to take family, and many of the customers know each other. The women who work there anticipate when you need more ice water, coffee, etc. and are lovely people.

Ted's is a traditional diner and it has kept its character, even in this age of franchizing. Expect no "wonderful" food, just good food at a good price and in a local atmosphere. I make a point of trying out the French Toast in different places all over the country, and their's is at the top of the scale. It is simple, but it's got everything right: not too greasy, the bread (a good choice, whatever type of loaf they are using) nicely soaked with the egg mixture and three slices is more than enough without being wasteful. Coffee is OK and refills come promptly. The bill with tax is $7.50 including a $2.- tip. We go regularly on Sunday mornings - the staff knows us by now and treats us well. The only negative thing is that the "decor" is starting to fray at the edges and could use some fixing....

Old-time, small-town atmosphere almost overwhelms. The roast beef, though generous in serving, was bland for a standalone sandwich. The courteous lady at the counter never offered sauce. The fries were run-of-the-mill. Maybe not the greatest lunch menu.

This is a wonderfully nostalgic era Restaurant that was started in the '60s and continues to provide Great Meals at Great Prices. Wait Staff are Friendly and Courteous, and provide fast service to ensure the meal arrives piping hot to your table. There is Counter Service available , and this is a thing that you don't find too often, is excellent SERVICE! Meal alone is $8.95, Coffee $1.00 extra. Smiles (Free) Taxes and Gratuity extra. For the Not So Tall yet, there are High Chairs available, and it really has a 'Family' atmosphere to it. Highly recomended. -R

Places in Toronto to relive your favourite movie scene

This spot in the very east corner of Scarborough—Highland Creek, no less—has a classic diner set-up that lends itself to movie sets. It’s worth the drive out there for the greasy spoon experience, the history and the opportunity to relive a Pushing Tin scene with Angelina Jolie and Kevin Costner.
