Ordered lunch at 1150am. Got my coffee at 12:10. Lunch still never came.Told the waitress to just cancel my order. So had to skip lunch. That sucked. So walked out & never paid for coffee, so dissapointed.
My friends and I would often visit this restaurant and enjoyed the meals. But the last 2 times we have been there the food was not worth the visit. My friend ordered pasta which had obviously been reheated and was dry, my ribs were stringy and chewy and had been covered up by the large amount of sauce on them, My other friend had steak which was so well over done it was chewy and cold. I asked if i could have a different order of ribs because I could not eat mine, by the time they came i asked for a doggy bag and took them home, when i tried to eat those they were the same stringy and dry. The next time we went out we chose another place, too bad the food isn't consistent. I must say though that the service was excellent.
I visit Kelseys on a month basis, isometimes it with 4-6 girlfriends for dinner before a movie, or 8+ people for a birthday celebration or lunch with a friend. In the past several years I have only had (1) negative experience, and when I brought that to the franchise owners attention, he went above and beyond what any other place has done when things have gone wrong. This is a very busy establishment and if you go, please expect to wait, don't go especially during the dinner hour is you have to be somehwere in an hour, i's not going to happen. I find the staff friendly, well versed in the menu and always willing to please..it's ALL In how you ask or go about voicing your complaint...try to be tactful and you will receive better results. Remember many of these people that work these jobs are pain minimum wage...sure they get tips..but having been a waitress (20+ years) ago...the public is the most demanding and many believe that they are entitled to more than what they are receiving. BTW ate on the patio late last fall...what a nice experience.
My wife and i waited 10 minutes for a server who was chatting it up at the next table. When he did take our order we waited and people that came in 5-10 minutes after us where already dining After 25 minutes i was ready to leave when another server brought our food. After finishing our food we waited again for the server to bring bour check, when that dident happen i went to the front and 3 employees were chatting ,finally one said that i should stay at our table and the server would bring the check She did go to find him and another 4-5 minutes passed before he showed up. I realize everyone has bad days but this person was beyond slow.
My wife and I visited Kelsey's on Thursday, 20 May as we were crossing Canada visiting the 10-provinces. As we are from Australia, each place we visited had different types of meals and routine for ordering, serving etc. We were very grateful to both Kelly who was a trainee at the time and her trainor Jessica who waited on us and gave suggestions of the meals they recommended. We were extremely happy with Kelsey's being close to the Econolodge where we were staying as well as the meals and especially the service we received. Canada is a great place - wish we could get good service here in Australia!! Best Regards Anne & David
This place is so bad it is almost beyond description. Cold food, surley servers, loud horrific music. On a 5-star scale I rate this a 1/4-star.
I ended up ordering the Cracked Peppercorn Burger it was amazeing, the best burger by far that I have had comeing out of a resturant, the meat was actually real it seemed! Though I find that the booths are throughly uncomfortable as the table is to far and to high Id avoid those especially with children. Other than that service was great, my waiter found out I was pregnant and ended up comeong out with a plate of Kosher pickles, =P so thoughtful and she really did go out of her way to make me smile hehe. I would recommend this place to anyone, its not pricy at all 2 people can eat a huge meal for a little over 20.00. excellent prices and food tooboot!
This Swiss Chalet is unbelievably GREAT! The food was served hot! The server was a little slow but very friendly. My sister and brother in law deliberately sat in the server's area as they liked the efficient service they always receive. Yes he may be a bit slow but we had everything served piping hot! I would return here in a blink of an eye!
Every time I have come here, I am normally impressed, this time however I was not. To begin the night we walked in to see people waiting, however, we were brought to a seat right away as the other parties were too large. The waitress came and took our drink orders roughly 5 minutes into us sitting down, and promptly brought them back to us. We had already decided on what we were going to eat so we ordered as she returned. From this point on things began to go really down hill, really fast. Granted, the place was fairly busy, I find it unacceptable to have waited 50 minutes for a burger and salad, and potatoes with soup. I was nearly ready to walk out, but the food arrived just in time. The food saved the night from being a total wreck. Granted, it is not very hard to make these items, they still had a great taste. Our waitress visited back only once to see how our meal was or to see if we needed any other beverages (we both had water). I found it to be an insult that as she took our water glasses to refill them, she put other drink orders ahead of ours. Nearly 5 minutes of a wait to get water? This is the first time in my life that I reached for my drinking glass of any kind, to find it not there, only to remember the waitress took it to refill it nearly 5 minutes ago. Sadly, I think I will avoid Kelsey's for a while. Anyone who reads this, take it from me, someone who frequents this place: on a good night, this place can't be beat, on a bad night like this one, this place is downright horrible in terms of service.
Overall, a very enjoyable meal. We were seated right away with no wait whatsoever, which was nice to see. The waitress took our drink orders right away and returned almost immediately after. My meal overall was very good. The sandwich had a lot of flavour, and the salad had a great taste to it. My only real complaints about the meal was the side salad that came with my sandwich was on the skimpy side, but the taste made up for it; and some of the sauce was a little drippy on one part of my sandwich, but overall acceptable. The waitress was fairly attentive throughout the meal, even with a fairly busy atmosphere. Will I visit again? Of course! Great meal at a fair price with good service!
A party of about 11 of us went to Kelsey's after the LU hockey game, I do realize that we were a big party and expected a long wait time. I did expect however 45 mins for appetizers and 2 hours for food! we went at 11pm and there was only 3 other tables in the restaurant and they were all done eating! I was disgusted with the service and our wait time and the waitress did not even apologize for the wait time and the management did not offer is anything! I will defiantly not go back!!
We visited Swiss Chalet and it was the worst dining experience I have yet to experience. It took over 45 minutes for us to receive our meals which were COLD and sloppily presented. THERE WAS A FINGER IMPRINT IN MY COLD MASHED POTATOES! The service was horrific; the server took our orders and did not return at all until it was time to give us the bill. Customers who had arrived much later than us were served and gone before we had even received our food. This of course should have been an indication that we should have just left! Never again will we return to this establishment, it is horrific! Other locations are much more efficient. Do not go to the Thunder Bay Swiss Chalet unless you want to wait an hour for terrible food and appauling customer service.
We were seated as soon as we entered the restaurant. It took us awhile to make our selections, but the food was amazing. My ribs and wings were absolutely perfect, fall of the bone and tasty. The Balsamic Chicken was very moist and flavorful, along side the vegetables and mashed potatoes (which were amazing). The service was fast, but the waitress was at times rude and took away our plates by stretching right out in front of us. I will definitely go to Kelsey's again. Great tasting food. I was sad that they did not have Dr. Pepper, but Iced Tea is always good as well.
Fully Knowledgeable staff knew exactly what i wanted to order. Friendly faces, with great smiles. Makes me feel at home when I'm up at the bar watching the BIG game.
The staff here is always friendly, I've never had a bad server. Generally quick service too, even when busy. The food is mediocre, I generally go for my friends and the atmosphere. Whatever bun they serve the veggie burger on is awful though.

this place is aweful... they don't make specialty dishes for people who are allergic to certain foods... I am very displeased that they can't make some dishes without, say, onions in them... how hard is it to leave the onions out? I will NEVER be returning to this restaurant... it was a total waste of my time and money...
what a fabulous place to go in Thunder bay! Service for one was excellent. The food was hot and served quite quickly. We will go back many more times and bring friends.
First of all...is this place where everyone comes on Saturday nights. Place was packed. Going anywhere else in Thunder Bay we would have waited 30-45 minutes for a table for sure. But at Swiss Chalet they have lots of room. The service was great and food was excellet. Very large helpings. Will be back for sure!!
Nothing to complain about here. Great service and excellent meal. Nice to be able to add on the dressing, cranberries, and chocolates to any meal. Even if it was ribs. But why is this the only Swiss Chalet not updated like the others. They deserve it.
