went on a Saturday night around 9:30. The bar was full and we perferred private dining so they set up a great booth for us were the only people we saw was staff. It was a great time. my wife and I ended up seeing old friends and they came and sat with us instead of getting our own table. It was my husbands birthday and they made him a cute little dessert and played a song and the two servers danced for us. It was a great time. The owner and the two servers also chose to do the thriller dance for all of their customers that night. Love it!
My wife, 2 daughters and myself stopped in for dinner last friday at around 7Pm. As we walked in we were greeted by 3 different people, which was nice. As we sat down our server was already at our table handing out water and telling my wife and i about the dinner special. I gave it a try, It was called the island chicken. It was delicious, so much flavor. And the desert that came with it was phenominal. Although i cant recall the name it was a pudding and very sweet. My wife had the salmon with all the peppers and feta cheese on it. She was extremely satisfied as well. The girls both had the souvlaki. Usually you are stuck waiting for our food but our server had the girls' food come out right away and our salads as well. Our server actually apologized for rushing us as he brought us or dinners as we were finishing our salads. Servings are huge! You will not be leaving there with an empty stomach. The girls got complimentary ice cream when i got my dessert and my wife couldnt try any more but the server brought us a second spoon so she could try mine. Extremely happy with our visit. Thanks so much! Will be back!!
My family decided to try naxos for the first time this weekend and it was absolutely delightful. The kids had a wonderful time and my husband and I enjoyed the wraps and wonderful homemade salads! The cocktails we tried were amazing and the owners/managers made a point of coming out to greet us. Great job
Ladies night out was amazing and glamorous all in one evening!!! My girlfriends and I were out for the evening, and most of us, if not all, have been to Naxos many times before. I am just new to computers or else I would have been on here a while ago. Once again the evening we were out was as usual an above exceptional dining experience. Jeff was out server that evening, and it was my friend TIna's birthday. We are experiened women, older, more mature might I say, and we dine out quite often. Each one of us is different and unique in the same way, but Jeff was able to interact with each of us in some sort of pleasant and fun way. We had a blast, Jeff was quick and effiecient, and our meal options were supurb!!!!! Also, it is quite often that the owner, Penny, entertains the guests and treats them to stories, company, laughter, unepexcted treats, performances by her and others, live entertainment once in a while (join their facebook group) and the site normally has the options for special events and when!!!! On this evening it was special dessert feature of some sort, I was having a smoke when they did the dessert, but Tina was surprised and happy!!!! When I am there, all the people I talk with, whether I know them or not, always seem to have something positive to say about the establishment. I just want to say a great big thank you to Jeff, Penny, the team, and Naxos Bar and Grille for something pleasant and entertaining in the city!!!! See you soon, Fran :) :) :)
Superb to say the least!!!! The owner (Penny) and various staff always take great care of my family, friends, and colleagues. I must say to have 100% of your party leave happy does not happen all that often when my colleagues and I dine out. The purpose of this visit was for a business dinner meeting and I was the one who chose where to have the meeting. We utilized the private room for out meeting, which was an added bonus for no charge at all, and a cozy table in the lounge for dinner. I was relieved to know, when my selection, had made everyone who had dined out that evening thoroughly impressed with the dining choice!!!! Not everyone had been there before, but by the end of the next day, all the conversations we were having between each other were about Naxos!!! The intangible experience I am wanting to discuss is the presence of ownership and leadership with this establishment. When I dine out, it's hard to even know who owns the establishment, let alone know if anyone that really cares is there. This place is unique, has a wonderful atmosphere and like I mentioned, has presence of ownership. Penny is the owner of the establishment, and make her presence felt every evening we are there. To know you are are appreciated where you go out and dine, is an intangible experience that many establishments do not possess. Keep up the hard work Naxos, you have my vote for dining option always!!!!!!
It was my parents' anniversary, and so my grandmother decided to treat us all to dinner. After an entire day of not making a decision, they settled on Naxos, a restaurant I have been a fan of since first going there a year ago.
A little backstory: my friends and I have made Naxos our regular spot to go every Friday night. There's usually a group of 6 of us, but sometimes there can be up to 12 or so. Since we started coming there, we have been made to feel like we are truly valued customers, and have become fast friends with the owner and much of the staff.
Back to the anniversary dinner. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted and shown a table. It wasn't long before Penny, the owner, came by to say hello and fill us in on the specials. She took extra care with my grandmother, who is very hard of hearing. She also informed us that as it was my parents' anniversary, she would be paying for our appetizers (bruschetta and saganaki) as well as some bread.
The atmosphere is always great at Naxos. The combination of the lighting and the art (both local and Greek) provides a nice setting, and the place is never too noisy. The music that plays on the speakers is an eclectic playlist which combines top 40 pop, classic rock, and world music. Everyone at the table commented on how varied and awesome it was.
Then there's the food. The prices, to me, are about average for a nice restaurant, and cheaper than some. But you do not go home hungry. The meals are always hefty, and I have never been disappointed with one yet. My favourite so far has been the Seafood Marinara, which is a pasta dish with seafood, of course, and it is well worth the price.
Nobody at my table left unsatisfied with their meals, or the service. Several times throughout the evening, the waiter and/or Penny came by to check on us, but made it feel like more than just a server refilling drinks, instead making us feel among friends. Five stars for Naxos, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great restaurant with a unique menu.
PS As an aside, I feel the need to specifically recommend the Saganaki appetizer. Try it, you'll love it, and especially the method in which it's served. OPA!
Extra for rye toast? Unbelievable. Not impressed with the expensive breakfast. Don't ask for substitutions here. Not very friendly at all. Nothing special about the food. Not a favourite place due to the high cost for breakfast. Never been there for lunch or supper...not interested really. We go there about once a year to have the all expensive persian french toast.
My Wife and I thought we would try Naxos, Having heard good things. Unfortunately, Our Male Server was the Worst Server we have ever Encountered EVER.... 5 minute wait for your server to aknowledge your presence at the start should have tipped us off. But it got worse.
In fact the people across from us with the same server got up and left. 1 hr 45 min for 2 people is rediculous. I privately and politely complained to the Co Owner and She just tried to defend her employee stating we were his first complaint. Now I am here typing out a bad review. We were kept waiting between servings far too long. I normally would never complain but the food is Great and I may go back... Just wish the owner showed us she wanted our business again with a small discount or free apps for our next visit...., instead of a Hollow Apology. Should we go back????
Delicious food, the service was amazing. I was very impressed with the experience here. The owner stopped by each table and chatted with us all. We were there on the busy graduation weekend in May. We were not sure if they would have a table, but they did! Will definitely go back.

We visit Naxo's about 5-6 times a year. We have been going since they opened. The food is always consistant (very good) and so is the service. Penny (the Owner) always comes by to make sure of that. Prices are good, and if your lucky you can catch a bit of Greek dancing where they smash dishes on the floor! One of our favourite restaurants.
Me and some friends were travelling around the city searching for somewhere new to eat and discovered Naxos. We had heard about it before and decided to go in and give it a try. The atmosphere was upbeat but at the same time very relaxing. We were quickly greeted and seated and proceeded to order. We started off with some sort of flaming cheese dish as an appetizer. It was very delicious. After that we all had assorted meals including pasta (Try the jumbalaya, best bang for your buck out of any pasta) We were greeted by the owner Penny who thanked us for coming and that was one of the best parts of the night. Its rare when you go to a place and the people are happy to serve you and make you feel welcomed. We will be back for sure!
I vist this resturant all the time, and Penny and the Staff are amazing.
Penny always checks on you to make sure everything is ok. I have never been disapointed with a meal there in my life. They have always made me feel like family.
I will be going there tommorow for breakfast because the greek omlet is great. I recommend this place to all my friends, and usually visit once a week.
My husband sums it up like this "It feels like you're not in Thunder Bay anymore" The food at Naxos is always amazing, portions do vary - I enjoy the Chicken souvlaki (Skewered chicken, potatoes, rice, veggies and AMAZING greek salad) and it's just enough for me. However my friends ordered a pasta dish and there was more than enough to share! The free dips and bread have certainly expanded my palatte and encouraged me to try flavours I might not have.
Their desserts are out of this world! I wish I could eat them all.
Penny is an amazing owner/manager - she always comes over to talk to you and makes you feel like she's happy you're there. Feeling like a regular makes you want to be one. I was lucky enough to be there once when they had the Greek music going and the waitstaff were dancing - it was amazing!
This is my favorite restaurant in Thunder Bay. It has the atmosphere of a high-end restaurant, but the casual feel of a neighbourhood place.
I had the special that night... "jimmy's jambalya".. and let me say, it was fantastic.. I would go back JUST for that.. great big pieces of shrimp, local sausage and a kick to it that was just perfect so that even my wife could enjoy it.
Also had the grape leaf rolls (can't remember what they were called, but they were cabbage roll-esque), and was quite impressed.. the sauce they came in was amazing..
only downfall, which was quite minor overall, was the dipping sauce for the bread roasted red pepper.... kinda tasted like miracle whip... so, not great, but was still quite good.
the owners came out and greeted us towards the end of our meal and we had a brief conversation.. really made it that much more personable and even gave us the history behind my dish (the original owner jimmy had passed a month ago and had this recipe, so it was to honour him)..
Well worth the drive across town, will definetly be going back.. can only hope the jambalaya is the special that day!

Having never been to Naxos, one evening i decided to take my spouse to give it a try. We can't believe that Naxos is only ratred a 4. The server (Andrew) was beyond excellent. We were extremely impressed by every aspect of our meal and service. You can tell that they care. We got a very genuine warm feeling from the whole evening. As for the food it is was excellent. Very reasonabloe considering what you would pay for this type of meal elsewhere. And you could not put a price on the service.

This is one of those places that you just have to try. The service and atmosphere is excellent. We stopped in after a really long day. The breakfast all day is an amazing pick-me-up, and the toast is almost perfect.

The specials were delicious! Judging by how packed the restaurant was at 7:30, the evening was a success. Having reserved 5:30 and 7:30 seating was a great idea.
The accordian player walking throughout the restaurant was a nice touch, too. There were many smiling faces and happy customers. I overheard many raving about the special asparagus appetizer.
Hope you do another one next year. We'll be there.

As for Mr. Nice Guy, you think that it's the employees writing the positive comments when in fact, it is the customers that frequently visit there that have the positive comments. I, myself eat at Naxos on a regular basis and have never had any type of poor service from this establishment. It is so nice that the manager of the restaurant visit each and every table to discuss how their meals are, and if they can better suit the clients that come in to eat. I get very annoyed with people like you, that have nothing better to do with your time.........

I went there once and will never go again. We ordered Tzatziki dip we each tried one peice and couldnt stand to eat anymore because it tasted terrible. We sent it back and were shocked to find the uneaten dip on our bill at the end of the visit! I got the server's attention (after staring at her chat with her coworkers for 20 minutes and walking past us without even looking multiple times) and she did not seem at all interested in taking care of this. When she returned from talking to the manager she returned with, instead of the item removed from our bill, a coupon for the value of the item to be used on our next visit. Needless to say i never used the coupon. It was a waste of money and a waste of a good night out.
p.s. i cant believe this place is listed as one of the highest rated restaurants in Thunder Bay. That appalls me.
