Meet the owner

Bacon is one of those quintessentially Canadian items whose esteem continues to grow among food-loving carnivores.

With more than 20 years of experience in the food industry under his belt, Dan Motta could see that bacon was a popular trend showing no signs of abating -- which, in 2012, led him to open a bacon-centric booth at Toronto's annual Canadian National Exhibition. Entitled Bacon Nation, the booth offered such bacon-focused items as bacon-wrapped deep-fried Mars bars and a Nutella BBBLT.

The booth, says Dan, immediately went "gangbusters" with both the public and the press, and it was clear that Dan had stumbled onto something with real, lasting potential. But with the CNE lasting only 18 days, Dan realized that he had to take steps to keep his brand in the public consciousness even in the off-season. "The demand was out. People kept asking on the website."

Must-try dishes at Toronto’s Front Street Foods

Bacon Nation Canada prides itself on offering everything topped, wrapped and based in bacon. Proving that the not-so-guilty preference of Torontonians is in fact deep fried meats, Bacon Nation has turned its food truck into a permanent breakfast bar. Not for the faint of heart, they’ll be serving up traditional breakfast plates, poutine and sandwiches like the Pig Mac. Visit the breakfast bar at Front Street Foods for open-face egg bennies or breaky sandwiches.

Bacon-focused restaurants serving up a sizzle in Toronto

Bacon-focused restaurants serving up a sizzle in Toronto

Created as a tribute to Canada, Bacon Nation combines two great guilty pleasures— bacon and deep-fried fairground food. Their mobile truck and new storefront location celebrate bacon to the max. The Drunken Stupor, a breakfast sandwich piled with bacon strips, whisky barbecue sauce and a fried egg on a kaiser is divine.
