For a dining experience you’ll want to savour, visit Braised. A feast for the senses, this open and airy Queen Street gem focuses on modern comfort food and features a pedestrian menu of mostly slow-roasted, braised dishes along with sandwiches, salads and fries. The Cameron’s Brewery beer-braised crispy pork cheeks are to die for; the art on the brick interior walls, courtesy of MJG Gallery, is stunning; and the best seat in the house is, well, everywhere.

“The cooking style is slow roasted cooking,” explains owner Sam Scanga, who opened Braised on Queen Street East in 2014. Of course, roasting is a cooking style that’s been around forever. Sam has simply decided to turn the oven up a notch.

Family-friendly restaurants in Toronto’s east end

Family-friendly restaurants in Toronto’s east end

With colourful artwork, booth or window seating, retro lighting, cocktails and Shirley Temples, the whole family will enjoy dining at Braised. Even your pickiest little eater won’t be able to resist the simple penne with butter dish from the kids menu. Adults on the other hand can enjoy the penne with short rib bolognese, or try seared ahi tuna with quinoa and wilted kale. To boot, it’s got a lovely industrial-romantic interior, making this Leslieville restaurant a great place to gather for celebrations and special occasions.
