Most Authentic French Pastries in Toronto!

Upon living in Paris and returning to Toronto, I was determined to find the most authentic pain au chocolat in the city. I was looking for one that took me back to Paris with every bite....and I found it at Le Petit Gourmet! The size is just right, there is just a hint of dark chocolate running through the middle and if your timing is right, they are still warm from the oven, thus your fingers are covered in butter from holding the most tender and flaky pastry! The staff is extremely friendly! They aways greet me with a smile and I NEVER feel unwelcome nor rushed. The only area for improvement in other people's eyes may be the decor, however I feel it's part of this small cafe's charm! I highly recommend this cafe, especially those who are yearning for simple, classic French food. Bon apetit!

After reading the previous review on this...

After reading the previous review on this restaurant, I just had to make a post. The review of a rating of 1 is atrocious. I find it ridiculous that someone who has apparently been regularly visiting this Toronto gem for the last 30 years gives it a one. Also, news flash: restaurants don''t survive in Toronto since the 70s unless they''''re amazing. My family has relied upon Le Petite Gourmet for catering of all of our functions and every single time the food is an absolute hit! I love this place. It serves authentic gourmet French cuisine at very reasonable prices. The pork tenderloin in gravy is absolutely incredible, perfectly tender with a light tasty gravy. The potatoes are always done just right, crispy on the outside and dashed with herbs. The veggies are also delicious, not overcooked and not over-spiced. For breakfest, this place is famous for its fresh- baked quiche & croissants. Every time I visit, the service is gracious and the atmosphere is perfect: bright, cozy, rustic and French. The restaurant is owned by a couple that are incredibly kind and hospitable. The husband is a traditionally-trained French chef from Paris. Whether you require some of the best catering in Toronto or you''re simply looking for a tasty bite, Le Petite Gourmet is the place for you.

I ordered the beef stew with two vegetables...

I ordered the beef stew with two vegetables, coffee and dessert. I found the stew to be over cooked and vegetables to be unremarkable. Oddly the person behind the counter could not tell if she was selling creamed cauliflower or scalloped potatoes. I was very disappointed by service which I found to be slow and arrogant. I have been going to this restaurant since the late 1970s and over the years everything about it has been declining. I won't be going back.
