The self-professed mission of this North York Italian resto is to create the most authentic Italian cuisine it can from the finest possible ingredients. To that end, it goes direct to the source for much of it, including Roma tomatoes plucked from the San Marzano valley for its sauces, and flour hand-milled in Naples for its pasta and pizza dough. Mark McEwan's gift to the Shops at Don Mills - located directly across the street from the ultra-chic supermarket that also bears his name - is special for its rustic approach to the kind of food that really sings under such a touch.     Pricy but nice atmosphere

    This place is overpriced for what you get. My friend and I shared a light dinner, a glass of wine each and tea, and our bill (with tip and tax) came to $100. I ordered the gnocci in tomato sauce, which was very good, and the bread was tasty. But for a meatless meal with no dessert and no appetizer, the prices are too high. It seems like you're paying for atmosphere. The service was pretty good, but at the end when it got busier we had to signal for service. I think there's better value out there for the money. Seemed like a lot of people there could "expense" their dinners, which explains the crowd.
