Meet the owner

Whatever time of the day you visit, Johnny G's Café has something to satisfy you. "We have a full menu; we cover breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there's always something flavourful cooking for our customers" says Dimitra Kotzia, the entrepreneur behind the successful Cabbagetown diner. "Our breakfasts are very sought out, morning is pretty much the busiest time of the day for us. But we do serve breakfast all day long, so you don't have to be a morning person to enjoy what our kitchen churns out," she adds.

Johnny G's Café offers classic diner fare along with daily specials for its patrons. Dimitra and her kitchen team also love to bring some typically Greek flavours into the mix. "I'm Greek myself, and Greek cuisine is very fresh and tasty; it’s a great addition to our menu. We love playing with the flavours, mixing them up in a coherent fashion."

Alongside its popular breakfast and weekend brunches, you’ll find fresh and flavourful burgers, souvlaki, gyros, roasted potatoes with chicken, and pork chops on Johnny G's Café's menu; there's definitely a convergence of Greek and Canadian influences happening here, to the benefit of Cabbagetown's gourmands.

Wish I could give...

Wish I could give it 0 stars- Instead of being apologetic, she snapped at us. NEVER GO HERE! After we said we were going to write a horrible review, she blew smoke in our face and yelled "WHO'S GOING TO BELIEVE YOU!" Disgusting.

Quaint little cafe with old-world-charm leaded...

Quaint little cafe with old-world-charm leaded glass windows that open to the street in summer. I have been there many times, always getting one of their breakfast meals. The service has always been quick and polite. The owner/manager was always on site and seems to take pride in good service. The place is usually pretty busy, but has a quick turn around time, so there isn't usually a wait more than a minute or two. As soon as your coffee cup starts to empty, the waitress or busser is over to fill it right back up (if you desire). It is a good old fashioned diner/greasy spoon that is great to sit back and have conversation with friends, and also great prices. Bonus, it is located close to Riverdale farms (TO's 1st zoo) which is great place (free) for kids to see animals, and near riverdale park for a game of baseball, tennis, ultimate or walking the dog. The meal is always done how you like it, and price includes coffee/tea and a small cup of OJ. Not bad at all ;) One of the most economical places to have a full meal, and unlike Yorkville restos I have never been dissatisfied with the food nor the service. The one thing they could improve on is offering more hot water for tea drinkers...we enjoy refills too!

Serving up sizzle: Great breakfast restaurants in Toronto

Johnny G’s diner in Cabbagetown fuses a quaint greasy spoon vibe with all the breakfast classics, deliciously rendered. The Grand Slam breakfast will satisfy that quintessential American meal you’ve been craving, while a selection of creative, rarely seen Benedicts also pervade the menu: The Parisian (fried mushroom or tomato) is a must-try, as is the crab meat topped Eggs Imperial.
