From the quaint menu to quirky marketing, everything at Le Papillon on Front is done in house, and all staff lend a hand.

General manager Sean Gowland says the homemade rule goes a long way to not only keeping costs down, but also towards creating a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment for every walk of life. “We like to be able to cater to a lot of vibes,” says Sean. “We like to tip on the edge of trendy but there’s no 'I’m not hip enough to go there' or 'I’m too hip to go there.'”

Dishes like hearty French onion soup and tourtière – a traditional Québecois meat pie of seasoned veal, beef and pork with house chutney, potatoes and market vegetables – are comparable to what you’d be served at Grandma’s. The restaurant is stylishly impressive, yet stills feels homey, comfortable and relaxed.

Le Papillon on Front's eclectic team includes a few Francophone servers who help to give the restaurant its French-Canadian authenticity and also come in handy when Toronto classrooms come to learn the language and experience the cuisine. “It’s different being an independent restaurant,” says Sean. “We really do our best to make sure our customers leave happy.”

I can not beleive that no one else has written a review for the Le Papillion. It is my top choice for a restaurant if you want a romantic date atmosphere or a nice place to take your parents when the come to town. The serive is always great, the food is consistently great. The prices are quite reasonable. The crepes are always fresh and delicious, the salmon good, great French Onion soup. I also love the tarte au sucre (maple suger pie) for dessert- its the only place in Toronto that I know of that serves tarte au sucre. Great quebecois fare!

We have the special and it was very good. The wine selection was also good! The service was outstanding as they left us alone until we were ready to place an order, then the food came quickly.

The food was amazing, it was fresh and hot. Everyone enjoyed their meals, also your dessert with the sponge cake and caramel was absolutely amazing. My grandmother had a piece of mine and ordered a whole one for herself. She is not a dessert person and she loved it. Amazing experience, keep up the great work

Overall a pleasant spot, and the price is right for the selections. The escargots are consistently good, not chewy, and a great excuse for garlic butter. The bread this time wasn't refrigerator cold, so that was a welcome improvement over last time (bread should never be refrigerated). The crab benedict was a little disappointing. There was a good amount of crab, but the eggs were overcooked (hard yolks), the hollandaise sauce not lemony enough (they rarely are though), and the english muffins were too tough to cut almost. But we enjoyed ourselves.

Haven't been to Papillon in a few years as we now live in the Thornbury area. Took a cousin visiting from Edmonton and she loved it, as did we. Thanks!!

The ONLY reason the food gets a 4 star and not 5 is the fact that the steaks were delicious, but they were grilled. I prefer pan seared. Everything else was perfect. Our party of three thoroughly enjoyed our meals and can't wait to find an excuse to go back!

Hi there, I want you to know the first thing I did when I went home after having dinner at Le Papillon was go on your website and post a review. The food was delicious!! I am still dreaming about the cake with the caramel and vanilla ice cream!! Can't wait to return and order that again. Also my entrée which consisted of the house made pastry with seafood was simply divine! I found the ambience to be classy, elegant, warm and inviting. The brick wall is a nice touch :) And the server we got. Janik was his name. He served us so well, and I also ended up appreciating him for being the intelligent, funny, fascinating and sincere human being he is! All in all, this was a beautiful experience. What a gem we have in Toronto! Keep up the good work. I will return to your restaurant with many more friends :) Sincerely, Shivanthi Kulasingham.

This is our second time doing a pre-show brunch at Le Papillon. The service is prompt and personable and we love the food! And they're not on the menu, but they do serve mimosas :-)
