Tapas bars have become a trend in Toronto, but Mezzetta has been offering its unique take on the form for almost a quarter-century now. Tapas is a Spanish dining format featuring a wide variety of appetizers and snacks. But the Spanish influence is only one aspect of Mezzetta.

“Tapas is a nineteenth century concept,” explains Safa Nematy, who has owned and operated Mezzetta on the St. Clair West strip since 1991. “And ‘Mezze’ in Greek, Turkish and Arabic literally means a small appetizer.”
