Meet the owner

In Italian slang Mistura means ‘a mixture of’. Paolo Paolini chose the word for his new restaurant in 1997 because he wanted to blend classical Italian recipes with contemporary tastes.

Mistura isn’t Paolo’s first restaurant. He was a co-owner of Splendido in 1991, but he branched out on his own in 1997 and hasn’t looked back. “My family has been very supportive,” Paolo says. “My wife has been hands on with the administration. If you don’t have a partnership like that then this industry is hard.”

Paolo has grown the restaurant in size, with two private rooms for small and large groups seating 14 and 50 people respectively. For the biggest groups, the upstairs section Sopra can seat up to 100 people.

    Liked it!

The food is very close to authentic and I love the fact that everything we ordered came out, well, in order. No one received their food late and we were very well attended to. Artichokes were fried perfectly and their lamb lollipops were succulent with the minted yogurt sauce. This is probably one of the only places in Toronto where you can sample cinghiale (wild boar) agnolotti. We had a very satisfyingly cooked branzino and rabbit for our mains and finished our meal with excellent affogato. The menu definitely lives up to the famous chef and I will be back again.

    Two times unlucky!

I have had the unfortunate experience of going to Mistura 2x. Both times the food was too salty and not well prepared. The pancetta on the cornish hen was almost raw (overwhealming fattyness) and the pineapple dessert was inedible. Additionally, both times resulted in stomach upset - not a good track record if you ask me.

Celeb chef Massimo Capra boasts creative dishes at this upscale Italian restaurant, with portions that won’t overwhelm. Mistura’s menu changes with the seasons, which makes it a fresh spot to dine. Plus, the meals are so inventive that you wouldn’t find the same elsewhere (think: red beet risotto, squash panna cotta, lamb ribs, popcorn-crusted scallops). With two private dining rooms, Mistura is also a great place for memorable celebrations. For weddings and corporate events, head upstairs to Sopra, a more private venue, complete with the same delicious food, plus music and entertainment options.
