All around great

Went to Spuntini yesterday with my wife. The food and service was great as usual. I don't know what the reviewer below me is talking about. The place is cozy, the owners very welcoming, our waiter was attentive and the food was spot on. My wife said her angolotti was the best she ever had. I agree because I tried some. My veal tartufo with the mushroom sauce was amazing. You can't get a better combination of food, atmosphere and service in one place than Spuntini.

fantastic

Coming from a place in the great cold north, where good or even halfway decent Italian food is a dream never realized, my family really wanted to eat Italian on their last night in town. After doing a bit of searching, we decided on Spuntini's....and never regretted that decision for a second. the atmosphere was cozy but fun, the service was very helpful and polite, and the food was delicious. if anyways says anything to differ, they need to get their taste buds checked out. the crowded atmosphere reminded me so much the few Italian restaurants left in Little Italy in New York City. Jam packed full of people laughing, talking, singing happy birthday, etc. I would not recommend this restaurant for a QUIET romantic night out on a weekend, but if you don't mind noise and activity, then this is your place. our waiter wasn't the most friendly person, but he was very informed, professional, and prompt, which I personally prefer to someone trying to be my best friend. there was four of us, which meant four sets of drinks, appetizers to share, etc, and we never felt we were waiting too long for anything. He even brought us extra bread for our mussels for dipping. the food! the pasta (isn't made fresh there, but it IS made fresh by a local store)! the desserts! all were fantastic. my father and I love mussels marinara but hate it when the sauce has zero flavor, or the mussels are still grimy or overcooked....these were perfect. and the sauce was good enough to drink. for my main meal, i had the lobster and crab ravioli with a lobster shallot bisque. a-may-zing. those types of sauces tend to be too rich to really enjoy, but this was simply divine. if i could have, i would have licked the plate. my friend got the cheese gnocci, which was delicious and perfectly chewy. my parents both got seafood dishes that were COVERED in seafood. you definitely get your money's worth. and the desserts! my friend and I split the creme brule, my mother had the chocolate cake (which she did not like so much), but the creme brule was perfectly smooth and creamy. would i recommend this restaurant? absolutely. will i go back? definitely! should you go? of course!

The owners are pathetic, the food is second grade maybe third, if you think this dump is first class you don't get out enough......the fish is frozen and they use the same sauce with every meat dish which is a just add water to the msg powder.......sick.......low class

This is my second time dining at Spuntini (the first was about four years ago and as I recall it was better then). Despite the reasonable pricing I found the service somewhat lacking in demure and repeatedly failing to catch cues. The food however, was especially disappointing although I suspect the chef had the day off this Wednesday evening. I sincerely hope he was absent because I would not return nor recommend this restaurant. FOOD: The bread and hummous was fine, but a missed opportunity. My soup had good flavour and texture but was unfortunately the best part of my meal; my companion's Caesar salad was mundane and had too much anchovy flavour and the same croutons as my soup. I have to say that my main was executed very poorly for a few reasons: the lamb was not properly trimmed of fat (strange for the tenderloin it's purported it to be, which already seems a strange cut of meat to use in a stew) and the fresh pasta was both a tad overcooked and woefully, terribly, horribly underseasoned. My dining companion had ordered a spaghetti that was a mix of two menu items and she complained of catastrophic underseasoning as well; simply, the fact that it was slight adaptation of a menu item is no excuse for not salting the pasta water. Her pasta sauce tasted strongly fishy and like mine, left a watery pool in her plate. I had one taste of her main and refused to finish it for her because I was absolutely revolted, whereas my main at least had good potential but lacked refinement. With our mains we had been offered low-quality clumpy grated Parmesan cheese but really we just wished we'd had some friggin' salt. SERVICES: We were warmly welcomed although I couldn't help but feel it was too casually done; there was a TGI Friday's feel to the service, which surprised me but I don't hold it too much against them. Our server was fairly knowledgeable but was trying to rush us to order and was not very helpful. He failed to alert my dining companion of a special which was exactly what she told him she was looking for and couldn't pronounce everything on his own menu. He further failed to stop and return at appropriate times, and considering the restaurant was mostly empty that evening this was not encouraging. ATMOSPHERE: The dining room is quite nice; I imagine on a busy night it would be somewhat loud and the chipper attitude of the staff might be somewhat less noticeable considering the formal feel they were going for. I thought the tucked-in ties were tacky, but again that's just me and I can't really dock marks for that alone. Clientele was all above 55 years of age except for one party of three that looked like an awkward third wheel situation. I guess that's not really relevant but I couldn't help but think that they'd at least have something to talk about when their soupy pasta arrived...

Overall experience was great. The restaurant has a very intimate atmosphere and was perfect for conversing. Our waiter was attentive and gave us good recommendations from the menu. The seafood risotto was rich and flavorful and was piled with tons of fresh scallops, crab, clams, and mussels. The creme brulee with mango sorbet was excellent and topped off the meal perfectly.

We've been to Spuntini several times and always come home happy and full. We went this past weekend, for my birthday, and as usual, the food is pretty good but it's the service that keeps us coming back. We went through a great bottle of wine but wanted more (but not a full bottle). The server opened up a second bottle of wine we were drinking and sold it to us on a glass-by-glass basis. It made our night! Make sure you book a reservation or you won't get a seat. It starts getting busy at 7:00/7:30. Oh...and do try the DeLuce cheescake. Enjoy!

Have been to Spuntini numerous times, the most recent being within a party of four. Service is exceptionally warm and top-notch. Food is very good (dessert is to die for! Try the Dulce de Leche cheesecake). Have visited as a small party as well as twice as a part of a large event (over 22 guests) and no matter the size of the party, the service and food is still the same.. excellent! Have recommended and will recommend to others in the future....

What's with this place

Ok, the food is AMAZING...it's the best pasta i've had in my life. We've been over 10 times, and our decision to do so is totally based on food. The service...I agree with another reviewer that the service is attentive. Here's my complaint, if you're not italian be prepared to feel like a second class citizen while you wait for your table. We've waited over 40 minutes for a table, several times, watching parties of 4 arrive after us with no booking and be seated first. Nepotism gone mad! On several occasions we've insisted we won't return, only to find that the food pulls us back. The ambience in the dining rooms is great. The washroom facilities are awful!

Great experience all around!

I've been here a couple of times, and have always enjoyed my experiences. Great food, with the carpaccio top notch (definitely recommend the appetizer platters), soup was incredible, and the pizza never disappoints. Some items seem a little pricey, particularly the wine, but considering the quality of the food, the atmosphere and ambiance, I would go back and continue to recommend. Service I have found is a little hit or miss, but mostly is very friendly and helpful.

One of the few restaurants that opened during Canadian thanksgiving. We love the ambience and service of this cozy Italian restaurant. The owner is always on top of things and the service is excellent. The food was great and everything combined made the dining experience really nice. We mostly had seafood platters but the many times we have visited, we rave about all their dishes, from pasta to seafood to lamb. The food presentation is great and so are the portions. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely AMAZING! The place was absolutely packed when we arrived, but the staff were nothing short of incredible- they took our coats and hung them up, offered us both a cocktail, and, when a table was available, they immediately seated us. Service was prompt, the waitstaff were well mannered, attentive and completely charming (I was exhausted after a performance when I arrived, and they made certain I was feeling well the entire time and asked me if there was anything they could bring me.) At the end of the night, the owners of the restaurant gave my mum and I hugs, told us to come back ASAP (the minute I'm back in Toronto, I'm going back!), called a cab for us, and even walked us to our taxis. To put it bluntly, Spuntini is one of the finest restaurants in the GTA.

It was our daughter's sweet 16 birthday and we wanted a very special place for her and her friends. Everyone else we called in Yorkville was not receptive to the idea of the girls dinner party. Sputini was excellent assuring us that they would treat them royally - which they did. The food was fabulous, the staff was excellent - my daughter's 16th will be a evening for her to remember. Thanks to all the staff of Sputini who made this happen.

This is one of our main hangouts in Toronto. This restaurant has the best service in the area, PERIOD! You'll find career waiters here, not fly by night kids trying to make chump change on the side. Somewhere between fine dinning and laid back. You'll feel no pressure from anybody when you walk in through the door. Good for a nice evening with you significant other, cool for a draft with some appetizers too. It's awesome just go !
