10 ways to beat the winter blues in Toronto

10 ways to beat the winter blues in Toronto

Rock Out! A good live music show can make your pulse race and your heart soar. The Danforth Music Hall is known for its great acoustics and amazing acts. Musicians like Rufus Wainwright have been known to perform sans mic here, just because they can. What most people really love about the Danforth Music Hall is the intimate atmosphere that comes hand-in-hand with its old-school architecture and up-close experience with the performers. If you’ve never been to a show here you need to grab yourself some tickets, head out to Greektown, and prepare to experience nirvana.

Toronto hip hop artist Jazz Cartier is reason enough to hit this east-end concert hall this year. The intense lyricality and heavy beats toted by the just-22-year-old rapper have earned him substantial international buzz. Not to mention the venue itself, which gives the feeling of being at a supersized cabaret of the past that happens to have a selection of local craft beers. The vast dance floor usually allows plenty of room to move, sway or mosh – whichever you’re feeling – and an upper level balcony provides more chill attendees a spot to sit and listen from a distance.

YouTube sensations Walk Off The Earth gained a cult following with their low-budget cover video of Gotye’s “Someone I Used to Know” back in early 2012. The five-piece band from Burlington, Ontario will play the Danforth Music Hall on Wednesday, May 6, to show off their creative covers and original songwriting. The historic concert hall is an impressive multi-level space that was originally constructed as a movie theatre back in 1919. The theatre is conveniently located along the busy Greektown strip – so there are plenty of spots to grab a gyro or souvlaki stick before or after the show.
