Thanks to enormous garden windows and a cool blue-grey interior, it’s hard not to feel like you’re somewhere Mediterranean when you dine at The Peasant Table. The restaurant opened in Toronto’s Riverside neighbourhood in 2015. Its menu matches features crispy sea smelts, cod fritters and grilled octopus.

“The vibe is very relaxed,” says restaurant manager Kasia Czajkowski. At The Peasant Table, customers are encouraged to taste their food, take in their surroundings and enjoy the experience. “We kind of want to treat them like they are family," says Kasia. "We want them to feel like this is a place where they can stay.”

The food quality was horrible and way overpriced for the portion and taste. And worst than that was the way the servers treated customers. The server had an obnoxious attitude and dismissed us when we called her over to the table. We weren’t even given cutleries when she served the food! She clearly did not care to serve the table. It was only after we asked to change the server, that we received a mediocre service. Overall, the service was disastrous and the food quality was so disappointing!

We ordered via Foodee for our team lunch, and salads arrive as literally chicken and lettuce. It cost us $19.35 each. I am appalled that the kitchen lets this leave the kitchen, as multiple meals are missing all their dressings. I could have done this myself by going to Loblaws and getting a package of spring mix and a chicken breast and saved fifteen dollars.

Toronto best happy hours: East end edition

Toronto best happy hours: East end edition

On Wednesdays this east end restaurant hosts an all-day social hour, where you can order draught beer, select bottled beer, house wine, and select spirits for only $5. All appetizers are half-off all day as well. There’s nothing better than a happy hour that feels like it will last forever, except maybe for modern Italian fare like polenta and meatballs and salmon affumicato.
