“When I started walking dogs in 2000, I’d have 20 to 30 differently sized dogs at a time,” says Fetch Canine Social Club owner Nadia Brooks. “There are all kinds of laws against it now! It was good experience though because I learned all about dogs the hard way and the experience has stayed with me.”

Through this experience, Nadia developed the ability to engage with dogs in addition to learning how to properly feed and exercise them. Being able to effectively engage with dogs is now the bottom line at her daycare, boarding and grooming facility: It is the litmus test when she takes on new staff. “To be honest, when I hire staff I don’t care so much about whether they are super-friendly with people or have any training,” Nadia says. “What I care about is that they are good with the dogs.”

It’s a simple test: Through a chat and a walk out and about with the dogs, Nadia can tell if a person is a good fit. “It’s all about how they approach the dogs. If they get down on their level and start to communicate with them, we’re off to a great start.”

    My dog stays here...

    My dog stays here four to five days a week and the prices are right, but the staff is what makes it. fetch provides good advice on what I should be feeding my dog, professional grooming for members and my dogs favourite, romps out at the property!! He always comes home happy and tired. I would highly recommend this mom and pop shop for anyone in the area looking for food, toys, treats and daycare services. Thank you Nadia for the great service and the laughs.
