Excellent Shanghai dim sum

After reading about Ding Tai Fung in the local newspaper, we tried it this morning with my wife and her parents. And, we were rewarded with excellent dim sum. The menu is a la carte, so everything arrived piping hot and fresh. The deep fried squid tentacles were amazing, perfectly salty & crunchy. Siu Mai was also good, done a little differently with brown rice on top. The green onion pancakes were flavourful, and not too oily. Xiao Long Bao were heavenly, with moist flavourful pork on the inside and perfectly done wrapping. We also ordered steamed vegetable buns, spring rolls, and a sticky rice bun called "si fan" with salty, crispy pork rolled into the inside. The decor is nice, and restaurant seemed very clean overall. Bill was $58 fo 4 adults including tip. I think this is some of the best dim sum in the GTA, and we've eaten extensively from Markham to Scarborough to downtown Chinatown. My parents in law who are from Taiwan and China were also impressed. We'll definitely return!

A trip to Markham isn't complete without visiting this exotic Shanghai place. A trip to this place isn't complete without trying the soup dumplings. Easily the best soup dumplings ever (comparable to Joe's Shanghai in NYC).

Different from Cantonese dim sum restaurants for sure. The signature dim sum is the Siu Lung Bao - the best in town, and a must try whenever you are there.

Whenever I'm in Markham, I alway go to Ding Tai Fung to quench my Dumpling cravings! This restaurant makes the best steamed pork soup dumplings! Its sooooo gooood! Comes out hot and juicy the way i like it! You can see the people making fresh dumplings everyday which is why they taste sooo good! I also enjoy their brasied noodle soup! They make their own home made noodles which is even better because it less doughy and fresh unlike other places which use the packaged noodles.

Very authentic!

The dim sum here is the most authentic I’ve ever had, and lucky for me, it’s Shanghai-style as opposed to Cantonese-style. That means, no carts rolling around and plenty of xiao long bao for all! All the dim sum items we ordered were delicious. The xiao long bao was perfect, and the beef rolls tasted like heaven! And the price is quite reasonable! I will be back again for sure!

Fantastic Dim Sum

This place is fantastic! The food is fresh and extremely flavourfull. There are these little pork dumplings that I always get when I go that are to die for. They each have pork and seasonings and a little juice inside that squirts into your mouth as you chew. The onion pancakes are very good as is all of the food that I have ever had there. The service is curteous and fast. The decor simple and tastefull. The place is earily clean for a Chinese restaurant which normally alerts me that this may be a Westrernised version of Chines - but it's not. I reccomend anyone who likes Dim Sum to give Shanhai Style Dim Sum a try. You may never go back to the more popular Hong Kong style. The only problem I have with this place is that it is more expensive than traditional Dim Sum, so I can't go all the time. But it's worth every penny.

Yummy dumplings...

I loved this restaurant. First of all, it's clean. The utensils, bathroom, floor-everything was clean. Their menu has a good variety of different foods. Especially catering to all sorts of people (vegetarians, people who don't eat pork, people who love meat). Best of all, they have a see-through (window) at the back. You can watch the chefs make the dumplings. Try not to go on weekends cause it's PACKED.

Their specialty is dumplings (you can watch them make them fresh behind a glass wall) and they have a tremendous variety. I am not of the culture so am not too adventurous but the regular "wall tip" and "siu loong bao" are fresha nd yummy. Not cheap by asian food standards, but acceptable for quality. Don't expect 5 star service or ambiance, just good, fresh food. Since you can order all foods steamed or boiled, a great alternatives from greasey fried foods.
