Meet the owner

Montreal is famous for being a place where you can find food from just about any culture in the world.  On the always-happening St. Laurent Boulevard, you can enjoy the tastes of Brazil at Acajou Br.

Owner Brent Hansen opened the establishment in 2010 and since then, it has become known as the best Brazilian restaurant in the city amongst Montreal's Portuguese community.  Most of the dishes served at Acajou Br come from the Bahia area of Brazil, which means they have a strong African influence. Seafood and fish are the order of the day, and you can expect meals that are more simple than fancy, but always delicious such as the Bobo Camarao, and the casava and shrimp casserole.

“We decided to have a restaurant because we're Brazilian, and we wanted Brazilian food," says Brent. "We are very well known for our food, so why not? So we decided to open a Brazilian restaurant, which is 100 per cent authentic,” he adds.

Montreal Brazilian restaurants: it’s not just meat

Montreal Brazilian restaurants: it’s not just meat

Acajou is a gem of a restaurant that is run by a mother and daughter team. Everything is made fresh only when ordered, so sit back and relax with the traditional Caïpirinha cocktail (muddled lime with sugar and a splash of cachaça liquor) while your meal is prepared. The Feijoada (a stew of beef, pork and beans) is delicious, as is the Ximxim, a chicken and prawns dish braised in coconut milk.
