An innovative cuisine using products from local artisans from all Québec regions between the laurentian mixted forest and the south of the province. Dishes are inspired by the old-fashioned cooking of the families who built today’s Québec, the First Nations’ traditional dishes and the different waves of newcomers who shaped our culinary heritage. Moreover, a selection of 25 wines from Québec now complements our wine list.

Québec’s map is the star of our blackboard, covering the main walls of the restaurant. Around those maps, we identify where our produce come from. A bar & lounge space, perfect for your happy hours with colleagues or friends, awaits you for a little sip and bite! For groups in need of a more private space, whether for meetings or for fun cocktails, we’ve revamped the Salon VIP, our existing private room for 12 people, and we’ve also added a new one, the Salon Cellier. This new private space, alongside our cellar, can welcome 18 seated people or 25 in cocktail style.

Meet the owner

Jean-Benoît Courcoul is the head chef at Bistro Laurentien La Coupole, which is located in L’Hôtel Le Crystal in downtown Montreal. The bistro's menu is inspired by the Quebec cuisine of old, and offers the wild ingredients of Native American heritage as well as local and seasonal products.

Jean-Benoît trained in the Grand Ouest of France, in addition to his advanced studies in Japan. When he returned to Europe, he began working in the hospitality industry, where he held various management positions. "I came here on vacation and I fell in love with Quebec," says the chef, who has worked in several great restaurants in Montreal including Auberge Le Vieux St Gabriel, The Intercontinental and the Mount Stephen Club, in addition to teaching supply management at the Institute de tourisme d'hôtellerie du Québec. He also participated in the opening of the Bell Centre. "I accepted the challenge here at L’Hôtel Le Crystal to take charge of what was offered on the menu."

Fabien Novert, the restaurant's manager, has been working in the field since the age of 14. "I quickly found my profession," he says proudly. After completing his hospitality studies in Lille, France, he worked for a time in his hometown. His dream, however, was to broaden his horizons and work on cruise ships, an adventure he was able to experience after perfecting his English. "After that, I was accepted, which is what allowed me to travel around the world." Fabien was especially drawn to North America after his visit to Disney World. "I wanted to return to the United States, but it was more complicated, so I applied for Quebec," says Fabien, who has worked at Restaurant Chez Georges at the Loews Hotel Vogue and at Toqué. "I really liked it, so I stayed in the restaurant business."

Very disappointing visit. First we ordered soup, which sounded delicious but is was not hot, at best it was luke warm. Ordered Salmon Tartrar nice portion but 3 little toast was not enough and the fries that accompanied the dish were cold and old and stale. Had to return the fries for a salad. Don't think it's worth a return visit.

Very loud, minimal ok service, food not impressive and pricey. Last resort on hockey night. Close to bell centre. They take reservations for 2 unlike nearby restos. Meh.

No table d'hôte menu for lunch. Food was too pricy for what it is and was nothing special, not even good and fresh. Dessert was not fresh. It used to be much better 2 years ago this is why the place was almost empty on a friday.

I expected better food quality for the price. $80 (incl tax and tip) for lunch for 2, no appetizers nor desserts, just 2 mains and 2 cappuccinos. Not so bad considering the location but the duck salad was very ordinary (lacked taste and character) and the cod was simply ok. It would have been easy to add more oomph to the dishes; gives the impression the restaurant and its chef are not interested in getting patrons to return.

I was looking forward to what was going to be an amazing meal, only to find out that they had an "event menu" available. Celine Dion was in town for the next 10 days, and seeing that it was close to the Bell centre, they had a menu that could fit the time constraints of the concert. That could work for people who are going to the show, but I was not, and I was hoping to order something off their regular menu. I was told, by the waiter, the regular menu was not available until after 7:30, and it would be too complicated for the chefs to do when they are focusing on the event menu. I understand what they were saying, but they could at least mention that on their website visibly. Secondly, the waiter did not offer to ask if they can make an exception for me, or even attempt to speak to the chef, or his superior. The worst part is, it wasn't very busy at the restaurant, and we were also dining at 5:30 pm. Lastly, the food was not tasty, and their event menu did not compliment their enticing regular menu. I would have been nice to try it if I was offered. Anyone who wants to go, please see if there is an event (which happens often), and avoid eating there early. Who knows? They might even do the regular menu at all during those event nights, so why take the risk?

Had the pan fried cod which was very ordinary, a salad that was bland, and chips that could have come out of a bag.. Not impressed, will never return.

The restaurant was not busy but after our main course was delivered, we finished our meal and waited for someone to check in on us. We wanted to order dessert but had to waive down another staff member. The waitress was very polite but could be more attentive.

the restaurant is located in a gorgeous hotel with a stunning crystal chandelier. I was surprised that for a Sunday morning we were the only ones in the entire restaurant. The breakfast menu is very very small. Not at all impressive. Despite the minimal choices, the food was good but when my plate arrived it was very sparse. The eggs Florentine were served with 3 cherry tomatoes, 3 blackberries, a slice of cantaloupe, a slice of honeydew, a piece of pineapple, a few potato wedges and a side of house ketchup. It would have been nice to have a small side salad or even a scoop of cottage cheese to fill the plate up a bit. The service was good, the coffee and hot chocolates were delicious. My only complaint is with the sparse breakfast menu. It has the potential to be so much more with great local ingredients and more choices. http://lacoupole.ca/en/breakfast-menu/

The food was good, but I was dissapointed by the very resticted menu they offered because it was a game night at the bell center. They only had a few choices. It made for quick service, but I would have preferred more choice or at least for it to be specified on their website.

Great place for dinner. Food was excellent. The only thing is that service was just OK. I would have appreciated a little bit more attention (waiter didn't ask if we wanted to start with a drink, he was ready to take our order very quickly!) Other than that, I'd return there for sure.

Lovely decor, but far too noisy. We had to almost yell at each as the restaurant started to fill up - and the restaurant was really not that big. I had the halibut, which I thought was rendered rather flavour-free from swimming in so much broth. I had high hopes for this restaurant, I really looked forward to trying it based on the reviews that I had read. But I doubt that I would return. I prefer a much more peaceful atmosphere for dining.
