Meet the owner

Café Les Entretiens opened in 1979, originally the work of a dance school in the area that had set out to create its very own canteen. Soon the café was so much more, becoming a hub for the arts filled with expositions and occasional performances, drawing artists from around the city. In fact, when Café Les Entretiens was launched, it was the Plateau’s first gay-friendly café, a tradition that continued until it was purchased by a straight couple in 2007. By that year, the area had changed and Café Les Entretiens had evolved into more of a neighbourhood bistro, drawing clients from all walks of life, which is still the case today.

In 2013, the owners put the spot up for sale, and this popular café found an unexpected buyer. Marie-Soleil Boisvert, a trained mortician, was looking for other opportunities when the terms of her position were revised. Her family had been in the restaurant business for years and she’d always vowed she would never take that route, but when she discovered Café Les Entretiens, she had a change of heart. Marie-Soleil figured that running a café might just allow her to blend her love of food and wine with work and in 2013 the place became hers. Café Les Entretiens has continued to blossom ever since.

Beautiful old cafe with all-wood walls and high ceilings with fans. Great ambience. Food is quite nice, coffee is great, staff usually very nice. There is a piano and sometimes they have someone playing, which is sweet.

Cool place any time of the day

Love that place to go eat on Sunday morning. If you are lucky, there will be a pianist playing some relax music while you are enjoying a delicious cafe au lait. I like it!
