In my opinion this is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants north of Washington DC, and I have been to almost all the good ones in Canada. You must try the Doro Wat, a chicken stew dish which is considered by many to be the national dish of Ethiopia. Also you must try their Tej, which is a delicious honey wine similar to the Mead of Medieval England. Last but not least, if you want the full Ethiopian food experience make sure to use your fingers for eating, after washing your hands of course :)

The decor at this wonderful Saint-Denis restaurant is distinctly tribal, and the Ethiopian food you’ll find here is downright delicious. There’s no need for a fork when you dine here – your selection of meat or vegetable stews is served on a bread called injera that doubles as your utensil. Vegans can also get in on the fun, with a number of options that will work for them.

The restaurant Nil Bleu introduces us to Ethiopian cuisine in a lovely setting that takes you on a voyage. The vegetarian and vegan dishes are made of peas and lentils, vegetables in sauce, and various purees, all served with rolled teff pancakes. A culinary delight.

In this restaurant offering fine Ethiopian cuisine, the spirit of sharing is at its best. All the sharing plates are served with a different kind of pancake. The music and striking decor (think bright white and animal prints) transport us elsewhere. My favourite dishes on the tasting menu are the Yemesser watt (a lentil dish in sauce), beef tartare with Ethiopian spices and eggplant. Reservations are recommended.
