Taberna opened its doors on September 6, 2016 on Saint-Paul Street West in Montreal. The owners, Jorge Da Silva Sr. and Jorge Da Silva Jr., also own restaurants Tapas 24 , Les 400 coups and Nolana. The Da Silvas have been restaurateurs from generation to generation, and it was Jorge Sr.’s father who brought Portuguese cuisine to the city by opening one of the first Portuguese restaurant in the ’40s.
For them, the restaurant business is a family affair. Jorge Jr.’s wife, Catherine Maisonneuve, is in charge of marketing for all restaurants in the group, including Taberna. “I take care of marketing, communications, partnership and social media,” says Catherine, who joined the team in 2011. She explains that Jorge Jr. had already been working at his father’s establishments while in school. “That’s how it started!”
Okay, so clearly we’re talking about a Portuguese poutine here, with piri-piri chicken, chouriço (cured sausage), grilled cheese curds and São Jorge cheese.
