In a fast-paced food culture where processed foods, especially soups, are a quick way to fill and warm your stomach, Soupe Café is a refreshing alternative. Soupe Café makes all its soups and dishes from scratch. The owner and operator of Soupe Café, Jeannine Scott, began her career as a nutritionist and worked in various positions within the food industry. “She realized there was a bit of a gap in the market in that there wasn’t affordable home-cooked, non-processed real food,” says head chef Jennifer Bisson.

Soupe Café takes its cues from the Canadian Food Guide, the long-established nutritional publication that has prescribed how Canadians should properly eat. It’s the kind of food that “your mom would cook for you,” says Jennifer. “Our focus is healthy and affordable meals (not just soup, but dinners and lunches) but our specialty is our range of soups.” The soups on offer have at least 50 per cent less sodium than what you would get in canned varieties. “It’s like comfort food without it being gooey-buttery and everything. Instead, it’s comforting apple zucchini soup. We stick to lots of vegetables and just the right amount of meat.”

The small restaurant has an inviting countertop where you can park yourself and dive into a panini or maybe even a vegetarian Shepherd’s pie. While there, you can watch Jennifer work as she prepares the latest soups on the menu.
