Torréfiction is a café that is constantly evolving. Once a video club with only a small handful of tables, it is now a full-fledged café, while hints of its cinematic past still linger in its décor. As a café, Torréfiction is a vibrant place that will boost your energy level, either from the locally-roasted java or the bubbly vibes emanating from the staff.

Part of the Torréfiction spirit is spontaneity, which means new recipes are always being invented. “Our kitchen is expanding and we’re becoming more and more autonomous,” says owner Pierre-Olivier Masse. “We now make our own muffins, cookies, smoothies, soups and salads and we’re always expanding.” The café also offers a catering service, through which clients can order in advance from Olivier’s wide selection of salads, sandwiches, wraps and desserts.

You never know what discoveries you’ll make on a given day, depending on the season and the chef’s inspiration. Even the music is chosen based on the general mood and the clients at the time. “If it’s mostly students working on their laptops, the music won’t be the same as when it’s groups of people meeting up for lunch,” Olivier explains. “We’re constantly adapting.”

The café space itself is modern, tasteful and colourful, with a rotation of local artwork featured along the warm brick walls. The lighting in this space is intimate and inviting and the mood is just the right blend of laid-back and upbeat.
