Meet the owner

Traditional old-world charm fills the air at Continental Treat Fine Bistro on Whyte Avenue. Family-run since 1982 by the Borówka family, this welcoming spot consistently provides Edmonton’s diners with high quality traditional European fare and great service. “We really try to give great service,” says Sylvester Borówka, who co-owns Continental Treat Fine Bistro with his parents Ryszard and Helena Borówka. “Through the years we have created what I call loyalists. These are customers who prefer to come to our restaurant over anywhere else and now their children and even their grandchildren are coming in.”

Sylvester says the family has worked hard to build their reputation. They started with a humble seven-table restaurant, but in just five years were able to expand. “I’m proud of our restaurant,” says Sylvester. “We always want our guests to feel welcome and to enjoy their meals.”

I walked in on a Wednesday night around 9pm...and was the only person wearing jeans. Oops. The place looked high end from the inside and it's located in the heart of Edmonton, The beer list is expansive, The selection was great and included a number of beers I had not come across before. It can undoubtedly compared to sherbook liquor store.

Best Food In Edmonton That I ever had

For the appetizer I tried the Chicken Stroganoff stuffed with cheese, it was tasty, but nothing special to it. On the other hand, the Chicken, Shrimp and Rice was amazing.Cooked perfectly so that it does not feel like you are chewing a rubber band. All in all, the food is simply prepared but delicious, the waitstaff is amazing.

The service was extremely slow. No offers were made for either coffee or dessert. As there were only four couples in the restaurant at the time due to the Pandemic, it seems surprising that the service could not have been even moderately efficient. Even when they went to leave, my mother and her friend had to unlock the door themselves They were obviously not welcomed at the restaurant and it should go ahead and make the decision to close down for the duration of the viral restrictions on social outings.

On 15 March I was celebrating my birthday quietly in a company of a long-time friend. Kristine provided us with extraordinarily polite and effortless service. Even the best food tastes badly if the service is not right. Here, however, everything was just perfect. Thank you, Kristine and Continental Treat! Piotr Grella-Mozejko, 16 March 2020

We had a wonderful time celebrating a family birthday...it was a wonderful experience. Even though I don't need a gluten free diet and prefer 'real' bread, the gluten free bread provided was excellent and allowed us to celebrate with family members who are celiac. The waiter took his time and didn't rush the experience; had that "Old World" feel that I love. Couldn't find anything to fault!

Always exceptional with classics and new takes on classic continental dishes. The drink, beer, and wines menu complements the offerings. Couple all this with exemplary service and wool want to come back for more of the same or to try something else.

Planned on just over an hour and a half for dinner before a show. There wasn’t enough time to have dessert. Restaurant was not that busy while we were there. Waitress was pleasant .

As usual, the service was impeccable (by the same waitress as on Feb. 14) for the two couples. All of the food (avocado salads, pickle soup, perogies/sausage, creme caramel, strudel) was delicious and plentiful. Magners cider is always appreciated. The atmosphere was disrupted by two nearby large tables of rather loud guests (at least until their food arrived). The older couple (now resident in SK) have been customers for around 30 years and one person in the younger couple has attended for over 20 years. It has been our favourite restaurant, as a couple, for over 8 years.

What a wonderful belated Valentine's Day dinner we had on Feb. 19! My husband and I had dinner at Continental Treat on that day and enjoyed everything about it - from the service to the ambience to the food. Oh, the food!! Last April, we took a river cruise on the Danube River from Budapest to Prague and our dinner at Continental Treat made us feel almost as tho' we were back there. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic European food and a great evening out.

One can always anticipate consistency at Continental Treat. The Server/Waitress was familiar with the menu and with the wines....which assisted as I seldom look at the menu. She was busy and conscious of being attentive.

We went to supper a bit earlier than usual because we were going to the show at the Jubilee. As always the food was excellent and we were given outstanding service by our server, Arianna, She knew the menu very well and was able to recommend food and beverage. We got our meals in a timely manner and went on our way to see what was an excellent show at the Jubilee.

We had been to your establishment before and had a great experience. This time not so much. We were there on time and were seated promptly. Our drink and appetizer order was taken immediately. The drinks took 1/2 hour to arrive. Didn't see our waitress until about 40 min. later and she said they were backlogged in the kitchen and our order was a little behind. Our appetizer arrived about 5 minutes later. Didn't see our waitress until another 40 minutes when she brought our meal and our bill. Two hours, the service was poor, saw our waitress a total of 3 times in 2 hours. There was no apology, no offering of possibly some bread while we waited. Terrible!! for the price!! And to boot - it was not that busy at this time, a few empty tables.

The starters (pickle soup/potato and sauerkraut) were excellent (tasty and plentiful). Our main courses (trout and Munich pork chip) were delicious and, in the latter case, very generously-sized. Only one of us had room for dessert (strawberries) but it was very eye-catching and flavourful. The coffee tasted/smelled excellent and warranted a second cup.

This was our second time at the Continental treat, the food and service were as before, the highest possible. Our server (unfortunately I cannot remember her name, she is a nursing student), provided us with the most friendly, professional, service that we could ever require. As to our meal, there was not one aspect of it that would require any improvement. We received it hot, well presented and extremely delicious. Rest assured we will return for more of the same.

Edmonton restaurants with delicious duck dishes

A Whyte Avenue staple and hotspot, the Continental Treat is an Edmonton favourite. This eastern European restaurant serves the best dill pickle soup in town, not to mention killer schnitzel, filet mignon with various sauces, stroganoff and, of course, slowly roasted duck legs with a pinot noir demi-glace accompanied by kopytka (potato dumplings) and hot red cabbage.

Gluten-free? Vegetarian? Meat-lover? If you have any of the aforementioned eaters in your dining party, look no further than Continental Fine Treat Bistro. It has one of the most extensive gluten-free menus that I’ve seen. They use many seasonal ingredients and their menu is fairly dynamic. Their dishes have French, German, and Eastern European influences. This place is always a good choice and never a dull moment!
