I bought a group of students from my university for dinner. It could not have been better. The food was superlative and there was live music as well. It was the perfect setting for a group of adventurous eaters! Wonderful experience and the owner was very accommodating. We showed up with about 5 extra people and he bent over backwards to make use feel at home!

They didn't know we had reservations. The atmosphere consisted of much interesting decor and a tv in the corner set to an Ethiopian music channel. The bathrooms have the oddest combination of paint colour and lighting making it difficult to see. The ladies was sort of purple and the gents was sort of green. The service was ok, nothing special. The food was ok. The seasoning was basic and lacked dimension. I cannot say I will go there again. The only good thing I can say is they were busy and we managed to get in and out in one hour.

Delicious food! Great drinks and wonderful, authentic atmosphere. You feel like you're getting both a taste and view of the culture. Great live music as well. We didn't know what to get so the server was really helpful in suggesting a great combo to try to get a taste of several different flavours. So full in the end and our bill was well priced

Probably the best Ethiopian restaurant in the Metro Vancouver area. Excellent variety of dishes available. The combo veggie selection is particularly good, as is the mushroom dish Proprietor and servers are friendly and helpful. Informal furnishings and atmosphere, comfortable but not fancy. Well worth a visit even it outside the normal restaurant areas. Plentiful free parking in lot by the restaurant

I enjoyed the whole experience. None of us had this kind of food before so it was an amazing experience. I love the family owned business feel :) The owner gave us a tutorial of how to eat and recommended the juices which were delicious! Will be coming back soon!

I held my birthday dinner at Axum with 6 of my favourite people. Everyone loved the food, the service was lovely as it's a family restaurant and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are their personal guests. As you share the food together, it is more communal and interactive than having your own order and eating your own meal. Everyone, even those who had never been to this restaurant or had had Ethiopian food before, raved about how delicious it was. I highly recommend it. You must try it.

Easy to overlook on a non-descript stretch of East Hastings, Axum is nevertheless considered some of the best Ethiopian in the city by the locals. A clean, inviting dining room welcomes diners to settle in and decide on the chicken, lamb or lentil wot (stew) or the various tibs (pieces of meat sautéed with vegetables). As is common, combo platters are a great option and everything is served on fresh, spongy injera. Fresh ingredients shine through without overwhelming oiliness and just the right amount of spice.
