I've been to Beerbistro twice and have loved the food both times. The steak frites are an amazing indulgence and I love that each dish has a suggested beer pairing. Our server was obviously very knowledgable when it came to beer and I spent so much time trying to find us the perfect beverage. My only complaint was that we were seated unusually close to another occupied table which was very distracting. I hope to try the beer ice cream next time I go.

Food was okay, service was inadequate

We came to this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend about their roasted red pepper soup and a salad that she had tried there. When we arrived, we asked to see their lunch menu but we were told they were only serving brunch. They seemed to make the exception and said they were serving the soup which was not on their brunch menu. We ordered the soup which was not piping hot but tasted fine. My friend mentioned that they had served bread with the soup when she was there before and asked our server about this. She said "no, we don't have bread", and then later "it doesn't come with bread" [a pause] and then "but I can bring you some". She was a bit slow on the uptake, I would say... The buffalo chicken salad is decent, but way overpriced. I had mentioned to my friend that I didn't care for the buffalo sauce they used on the chicken but that I would make do with the remainder of the salad. She mentioned it to our server (in an effort to see if they might be willing to replace it) but our server was not obliging. In fact, I don't think she really wanted to be there, she wasn't all that pleasant. When we received our bill, I noticed that I was overcharged for my entree and brought it to the server's attention. Her response was, "I know that they recently changed their prices". Well, to be honest, I don't care - if the menu says a price, I expect to pay that, it's not my fault if they didn't change their menu. In fact, at grocery stores, you will receive the item for free (up to a $10 max) if they make an error with the price. I said "I think I should be charged the menu price", and she responded almost haughtily with "I WILL, I WILL, don't worry...". No apologies for the mistake, nothing. In other establishments, they are falling over themselves to correct these errors. Needless to say, I won't be returning - this experience was a bit strange to me. This place has promise but not with such inferior service.

    Good, not great

The Beer Bistro has long been a hot destination in Toronto. The place is in a great location, attractive to the younger clientele, and has a phenomenal selection of beer. I went here a few years ago for Winterlicious and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. My most recent visit, however, wasn't exactly stellar. I don't know if its because it was a Friday night this time and the place was quite busy, but the service was definitely lacking. Additionally, the pizza we ordered came out cold. The minestrone was over-salted. However, according to the other diner in my party, the shrimp was magnificent. We also enjoyed the selection of beer and the pairings recommended in the menu were actually complimentary and delicious. Overall, enough redeeming factors to lead me to believe the unpleasantness with the slow, rude service and food issues were an isolated incident and maybe this place is worth another visit in the future.

    Cool spot, great beer selection!

This place came highly recommended by friends and Restaurantica, and we were thirsty for beer, so we hit it. Great vibe a you enter this busy, noisy bistro. We were welcomed and sat right away -- have to say the entire service experience here was great. Good staff! Massive beer list, so we had a few of the beer samplers. Found quite a few we liked, a couple were 'meh'. My partner switched out to Porter, but I kept up with the samplers ;) Had the Belgian Frites as a starter -- awesome combo with the brews. Frites were very fresh and very tasty. We had the Brussells Mussels, which were very nive. Small problem with a bunch of them being closed, but the staff dealt with it cheerfully and quickly (and removed from the bill -- thanks!). Most of the desserts were beer themed, which I'm not wild about, but I had the flour-less chocolate cake, which was hearty, and very tasty. All in all a great experience -- I'd go back anytime, and recommend it!

Came back after 5 years and recommended to a friend. Fries were all END pieces, when I looked around the other tables, they were all whole pieces. Should have sent it back. Don't remember bread being cold as a brick and definitely not enough broth in mussels to use the bread. Sad to see quality dip.

We had a very nice meal-both my husband and I had mussels and frites, and they were delicious as was the beer. The problem came when we were done with our meal and we had to wait for 20 minutes to get our check. The waiter didn't seem to be around much and then he walked by twice apologizing but never came to give us a check. Maybe just a small thing, but was very irritating and threatened to ruin our meal.

Very disappointing burger. Dry, bun was far too bready; overpowered the burger. I've been many times and there are plenty of other items on the menu that are good (including the fries), but not the burger. Especially since it costs north of $20 and does not come with the fries, which are an extra $7 (enough for 2). I expect to be amazed by a $27 burger, not disappointed.

Have been going to Beer Bistro since they opened and had noticed a decline over the last couple of years. Hadn’t known about the new management. This latest visit is our last. The menu sounds great, but the execution is average to poor. My lamb ribs came with a blue potato duck fat salad. I asked the waitress what that meant and she said it was a creamy concoction, so I figured how can you wrong with duck fat and potatoes. It was nothing more than grated, unseasoned, very dry potatoes. The lamb ribs were mostly bone and the pomegranate sauce was not detectable and there were only 3 spears of “grilled” asparagus. My son’s flat bread pizza was just ok, pretty small and nothing special in terms of flavor. The beer selection is greatly reduced and the new beer menu has almost no description. Coffees were tepid and bitter. The worst, however were their famous Belgium frites. I asked for them to be extra crispy and when they first arrived, they looked like they had barely been fried and didn’t look anything like a traditional hand cut Belgium frite. Took a bite and it was a tasteless frozen fry. Mentioned to the waitress that they weren’t crispy and she obligingly took them back. Figured I would give them a second chance, but everyone at the table agreed they were dreadful. I asked the waitress if the recipe had been changed and she insisted they had been blanched in duck fat, but truly, I can’t believe that’s so. Not hand cut, no beautiful golden brown color, not crispy, mealy texture, absolutely flavorless, and almost no salt, (that wouldn’t have made a difference anyway). The restaurant has been redecorated since our last visit and looks good, and it’s certainly still packed, but the food is very disappointing and putting frozen French fries in a pretty cone doesn’t make them Belgian frites.

The atmosphere was lively and our server was wonderful. The quality of the food was very good however the portions were quite modest and the prices were a but high. I ordered chicken schnitzel which was a thin chicken cutlet covered in arugula with some pesto, no starch or anything else to accompany it for $22 -I felt this dish was quite overpriced. Altogether the four us had two caesar salads, an order of fries, an order of mussels and the schnitzel. With one beer each the total came to $172 CAD which was the most expensive meal we had while visiting Toronto. I would recommend this spot for beer selection and maybe some appetizers before dinner.

The food was excellent! My only suggestion would be to include fries with that burger. For $17 and some fries wouldn't hurt It is silly to have to pay for them separately

The waiter was very condescending and my satisfaction was not his priority. First he couldn't find a beer I requested, then came back to the table after 5 min and ask me to point out the beer I asked on the menu. When I pointed it out, he said he didn't have it. The is asked for a beer on tap and he said he didn't have it even though it was not one of the strike outs. Finally he recommended a beer, said it was high IBU but not bitter because of the malts while asking me if I "understood" why the malts would lower the bitterness in a condescending fashion. The waiter definitely had a chip on his shoulder.
