“Bistro Grande is approved by the Kashruth Council of Canada, which oversees kosher food,” explains Arthur Batikan, manager of the Eglinton West vegetarian restaurant. “Every single one of our lettuces is checked so that it’s as clean as can be and the fish is prepared to strict and healthy standards.”
While Bistro Grande caters to an enthusiastic local Jewish community for whom kosher dining is a way of life, it also attracts diners who simply want to eat healthy, vegetarian food. “We open our arms to everyone,” says Arthur. If the idea of kosher or vegetarian food brings a left-of-centre menu to mind, think again. Arthur describes the menu as Mediterranean, and pastas, fish dishes, salads, soups and pizzas made in a wood-burning stove are among the typical fare at this welcoming spot.
The food was bland. The waitress got angry with my friends and I for not giving her at least %15 tips. We all tipped, but apparently not enough for her. She was very demanding. Extremely disappointed.
The service was good up until the waitress started to rush us out around the end in order to accommodate customers who were waiting for a reservation after us!

Service was excellent. We were fortunate to be eating early, as we finished two large groups were seated, and I suspect that the servers would have been hard pressed to keep up as well as they had with us. But I am sure that they would have tried. Food is consistently good. My wife ordered the soup of the day - celery soup, which my daughter thought would be too bland. But we had a taste and it was excellent. And not bland. Salads and pasta dishes were also done well.
