Meet the owner

One brief glance at Boralia’s menu confirms it: things are different around here. With the likes of kedgeree, whelk and cipaille making appearances on the menu, it’s clear that Wayne Morris and Evelyn Wu Morris are keen to both educate and innovate at their Ossington restaurant.

Partners on and off the clock, the duo presents Canadian cuisine in a manner unfamiliar to most Canadians. Here, traditional dishes are examined with a modern lens, with new life breathed into them. That stale image of poutine or a ho-hum roast? Scratch that from your Canuck food lexicon.

A lively unpretentious setting in up and coming Ossington restaurant row. Selection of just a few apps and entrees in small portions for sharing. Innovative, delicately prepared nouveau cuisine that is a rare treat. Try the cod, duck, mushroom salad, and roasted venison.

West end trendy restaurant with visually appealing large tapas sized entrees at around $16 each. The cuisine is "modern Canadian". The duck and elk were excellent, others were good, but a tad weird. I am a bit turned off with menu descriptions that try to wow me and sometimes under-deliver. Figure 5 entrees for 2 or 6 if hungry. We had 5, 2 glasses of wine and shared desert at $140 incl tip/tax. Nice atmosphere, dress casual trendy, average client middle-aged - quite popular and busy so book ahead a few days during the week and more for weekends. Recommended.

Made a reservation for 7pm and were seated right away. Overall the atmosphere and aesthetics of the restaurant were great. The menu is very unique and clearly very well-thought-out. I will definitely return for the food - especially the grilled mushroom salad, pigeon pie, and duck, but we did enjoy every single dish we ordered. The food does take a little time to be served, so ensure you go with that in mind. Set aside a couple of hours, don't go too hungry. It's definitely not a place for a quick bite. The servers were polite and attentive and the price was definitely decent for the quality of food received.

A perfect dining experience for both a vegetarian and a carnivour. The servers were attentive but not overwhelming. There were no problems with minor changes to the menu offerings. When asked, servers gave knowledgable advice. All the dishes were well presented. This was a rare outing (a birthday request) and worth the somewhat higher than average Toronto dinner tab.

We brought friends in who were visiting from San Francisco. They were looking for a "Canadian " food experience. It certainly was all of that. We enjoyed the food and the ambience especially the way the food was contextualized by the date it originated in. Our waiter was very accommodating and gave us great descriptions of each item as it came to the table. It was a great experience. We have since recommended your restaurant to a number of our friends Thank you Mary Lawlor

Keeping things Canadian, Boralia offers up a historic Canadian pie at the Ossington restaurant. The Pigeon Pie is made from scratch, filled with roast squab breast, duxelles mushrooms, spinach and shaved foie gras, served in a flaky puff pastry. It best shared between two people.

Pigeon pie: This combo of roast squab and parsnip will have you rethinking your aversion to the flying rodent. A gorgeous, flaky savoury crust made with both lard and butter are worth every evil calorie and gluten protein consumed. Inspired by the age-old tourtiere, this dish truly satisfies with a two part composition that utilizes the entire squab: the peerless pie's filling of leg meat with roasted root vegetables is folded into a velvety rich sauce made from squab bones. An accompanying roasted breast on the bone over roasted parsnips compounds a remarkable execution of a meat pie that all too often is too watery and runny to enjoy.
