Meet the owner

For a dining experience you’ll want to savour, visit Braised. A feast for the senses, this open and airy Queen Street gem focuses on modern comfort food and features a pedestrian menu of mostly slow-roasted, braised dishes along with sandwiches, salads and fries. The Cameron’s Brewery beer-braised crispy pork cheeks are to die for; the art on the brick interior walls, courtesy of MJG Gallery, is stunning; and the best seat in the house is, well, everywhere.

“The cooking style is slow roasted cooking,” explains owner Sam Scanga, who opened Braised on Queen Street East in 2014. Of course, roasting is a cooking style that’s been around forever. Sam has simply decided to turn the oven up a notch.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our experience, as we have on other occasions. Our server offered a choice of table locations and turned down the music volume slightly at our request. Food concerns and questions were happily accommodated, along with our bring-your-own bottles of wine. Thank you!

We're regular visitors to Braised and have never been disappointed in any aspect of our experience there. Our server, Dave is outstanding at what he does. A gem.

Had a great evening with friends. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable. The beet salad and the chicken breast dish was what I ordered. The salad was generously loaded with yummy beets, and the main dish was so delish! I was full, but wanted to eat it all! The interior is very nicely decorated...old barn board, metal...rustic and modern.

Food and service was brilliant, our only negative was the place was empty and as a result lacked atmosphere.Don't recall any music or ambience.I don't know why the restaurant was lacking patrons as all the other restaurants we passed on the way in we're very busy

Service was good and friendly. Food was good. There was a bachelorette party going on while we were there so that made it louder than ideal. We will try it again sometime.

Unfortunately, there was a birthday party that had rented out part of the restaurant. This place is too small for that. We could hardly hear each other and were screaming across the table. If you're going to allow a big party, you should either close off the restaurant or inform people before they make a reservation.

warm spinach and mushroom salad with balsamic reduction was a little too wilted. Shrimp and swordfish were overcooked. Otherwise flavour was very good. Service was great.

Enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner in a charming setting. Food and wine were excellent and I was even surprised with a birthday treat that the waiter had detected was the reason for our visit. We'll definitely be back!

Exposed brick interior makes for a cozy ambiance. Good menu. Food ranges from good - excellent. First time I was there the food was outstanding, this time the veggies accompanying the pork chop special were too similar, (pickled beets with sweet and sour red cabbage) and the pork chop was on the thin side - so ok but not stellar.

Family-friendly restaurants in Toronto’s east end

With colourful artwork, booth or window seating, retro lighting, cocktails and Shirley Temples, the whole family will enjoy dining at Braised. Even your pickiest little eater won’t be able to resist the simple penne with butter dish from the kids menu. Adults on the other hand can enjoy the penne with short rib bolognese, or try seared ahi tuna with quinoa and wilted kale. To boot, it’s got a lovely industrial-romantic interior, making this Leslieville restaurant a great place to gather for celebrations and special occasions.
