Meet the owner

When Andre Yu first arrived in Canada from his native China, he didn’t know what to expect. What he did know was that there were better opportunities for business here. “I wanted to find a place where I could give my family a new life, a new start,” says Andre. “So we packed up and moved to Toronto.”

Once settled in downtown Toronto, Andre found that there weren’t as many jobs in his field (the textile industry) as he had hoped. But he also found to his delight that the city is beautifully multicultural. “There are so many people from all different countries, eating all sorts of foods,” he says. “So why not try the restaurant business?”

Why not indeed.

Horrible food ! Poor service, nobody was serving, I had to go to the counter myself to pay the bill and I didn't felt like giving any tip for such horrible experience. WAITER STARTED INSISTING FOR TIP AND MISBEHAVED WHEN I DID NOT OBLIGE. Most ill-mannered people, just in business because of the shop's location.

What a disgusting show of courtesy by the manager/owner Chris. My wife and family went in with my 21 month old son and stroller. Immediately they were seated at the rear of the restaurant, fine...no issues. When another member of the family called to join them, my wife was told that they could not be seated as a group of 6. The restaurant was over half empty. Chris simply could have asked for the stroller to be moved outside. Instead he acted in a way that will ensure no one I know goes back to this establishment. Good luck

Solid Thai Food

It was a good dining experience. We enjoyed the lunch special with the free wonton soup & spring roll with our meal. The food is solid and an excellent value at $7,99. The green curry has some serious kick!

We love to travel to canada for food!!

I hardly write reviews but this goto do. I lived in the Philadelphia Chinatown area and Canadian asian, thai and japanese restaurants cannot even come close to philly in taste and variety. Every year or so my family and i will travel to Canada just for food!! And every travel we have to eat at Green Papaya. All the dishes are excellent. My favorite was the tom yum soup. I'm not a fan of spicy but this soup i goto have. My wife practically ate all of the papaya salad, her favorite. All of the main dishes are superb. Even my 5 and 4 year olds ate a lot which i hardly can get them to eat. The waitress was very friendly. You can't find that kind of service in philly! I love the design and atmospere of the restaurant.

A Great Change to the Noodles

To my surprise, the previous review surprised me. When i went to Green Papaya the first time, the service and others were good, but the noodles were a bit too soft. I asked the waiter, and he kindly suggested another plate at no cost. The waiters were kind and i couldn't beleive the other reviews! Since the waiters were so friendly, i decided to visit again. This time, i tried the Pad Thai again and it was great! The waitress, this time told me that since there were some complaints to the noodles, they used a different kind of noodles that was thinnner and was not overcook. Everything like the mango juice had a very fresh taste. The spring rolls were very crispy and had enough condiments. The prices were very non-expensive even though the restaurant looked very classy and uptown.

DINE AT YOUR OWN RISK - Utter disregard for food allergies!

My partner is allergic to peanuts and he never forgets to request for his dishes to be served without it. As we were at a Thai restaurant, he actually repeated his need for his meal to be peanut-free. Well, a few bites into the meals, he noticed that his throat felt funny. We asked the waiter if there were peanuts and he said no. Yet, he was sure he just ate something that triggered an allergic reaction. So, after asking for the third time to confirm that there were no peanuts in our dishes, the manager finally told us that while the actual food did not contain peanuts, the dipping sauce for his spring rolls did! He was trying to hide the fact that he made a mistake! If my partner believed him and kept on eating it, he could have died! Thank goodness that he isn’t deathly allergic – if he stops at the first sign of discomfort and drinks a lot of water, he will be fine. Needless to say, we were livid. When we asked him how was it that they served him peanuts when he specifically asked for them not to, the manager replied, “Mistakes happen.” Mistakes happen?! You nearly killed a man and the best you can come up with is ‘mistakes happen’? It wasn’t even an apology! Naturally, I made no hesitation to express my anger and concerns for this matter. As a response, he implored his grossly inferior customer service skills by making a face as asked, with a tone that did not so much reflect concern for my partner’s health so much as annoyance, “So what do you want me to do? Call the hospital? I can change the sauce for you.” all he was willing to offer was to switch an ounce of sauce. A sincere apology, while still inadequate, would have been much preferred.

Seriously disappointing

had the pad thai... same complaint as above, noodles were way too soft, and the shrimp had no taste. The beef was completely undercooked, and the spring rolls were way too greasy and too deep fried. waitress seemed uninterested in helping. prices were reasonable, but wasted on poor food.

Green Papaya was definitely affordable, but unfortunately the food was quite dissapointing. The lemon soup is delicious, and the sauce for the spring roll was great, but it ended there for me. The Pad Thai was mushy to the point where it literally melt before I put it in my mouth (not in a good way) it didn't taste like Pad Thai because of a strong tomato sauce-ish flavour..then the sesame cashew chicken which was a part of the combo was very spongy very little cashew. Spring roll was very dry with an unusual wrapper not the typical spring roll rice/ wonton wrapper. I would only go there for the soup..waitress was nice, but the basic Pad Thai needs to be improved

What a fantastic experience! I have been to Green Papaya a few times. I think they've done something with their menu, because the food was better this time. I like how they have asian waiters. It gives it an authentic feel. I've been getting sick of Spring Rolls and how you can't really share anything. The service was super. I highly reccoment this restaurant. It's been a long time since I've left a restaurant excited to come back again!

My wife and I eat here a couple of times a month, either at the restaurant or take out. A lot better than some of the other Thai restaurants in the area like Spring Rolls. They do a good job of getting us in and out quick if we need to get to a movie across the street.

Great dinner...been there a few times. They have a large menu of foods, even vegetarian. I had a cashew chicken dish, and their spring rolls, although a bit pricy, are very good. Will go back, a great spot in Mid town toronto.
