professional and good quality food. i came here with my family way back in 2001 for dinner as we were attending Handel's Messiah at Roy Thompson hall on the other side. Staff were friendly. my mother's friends' niece worked there. good quality, will come here again if given the chance

I visited Il Fornello for the Aperitivo special menu after a theatre production. I gave the atmosphere only 2 stars because the lights over our table (one row in from the windows) were so bright and glaring that I felt like I was in a police lineup. This is a common occurrence everywhere now and I really dislike it. People are dining out partly for the favorable atmosphere and high key, ultra bright lights are NOT good for atmosphere. Interestingly, around 6:15 pm staff dimmed the lights which was soooo much better. Unfortunately we were just leaving. Lastly the Pizzette was just okay. I haven't been to Il Fornello in quite awhile and I think the quality of the crust has gone down. Not as good as the pizzas I remember. I hope the kitchen takes note and improves the crust to where the recipe used to be. And I hope that management takes note of the lighting situation.

Fast. Tasty. Good times had by all. I’d go again! Especially nice to eat and then head to the theatre in the same block of the city.

Overall was an okay experience. We ordered 2 dishes of the warm olives and in one dish there was literal garbage (a bar code sticker thing? Not sure where it may have come from) The sever seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but serving. The food was decent.

We were about 10 minutes early for our dinner, however we were given a table immediately. The atmosphere was very friendly and full of lots of energy. Our waitress was very efficient at greeting us and attending to our needs (ie menu, a drink before dinner and the delivery of hot food as well as dessert after the main dish). She, it seemed, to always be in a bit of a hurry, with hardly a hesitation on doing the next step and progressing without a few seconds to take in what was happening. But we were given plenty of time to complete each serving before the next item was requested. She did say at the end that there was no rush in completing our dessert before we were offered the bill.

Waiter very good. Atmosphere noisy in crowded place; too open - design people could create 'rooms' with soft partitions that absorb noise and other clatter, enhance intimacy. Food on balance a dip from previous I F dining experiences. Menu narrow w/ too many pasta dishes slathered with goopy tomato sauce tho seafood fresh and tasty. Too few meat choices, and dishes that have a 'delicate' side (esp for customers going to/coming from theatre. $ value reasonable. Overall a disappointment and I won't be back for awhile nor encourage others. Veal/chicken piccata to add, for example, OK? And bruschetta with crisp toasts rather than bread dribbled with oil and passed over the grill. Dessert list was uninspiring.

Upon entering Il Fornello my hopes were high for a wonderful, intimate dinner with my partner prior to a show. Atmosphere presented as bistro Italian and smells from kitchen were wonderful. Then we were seated...... from this point on my partner and I have never felt so incredibly rushed, pushed and sped through our drinks, wine and meal at any higher end restaurant in our lives. From feeling as though we were being “hustled” through our cocktails by having our “wine with meal please” brought half way through our first beer, to being basically forced to put our order in as the wine was being uncorked, to meals arriving approx 10-15 minutes after - and beers still not finished - to cleared table and paying after approx 45 minutes in our seats, the feeling of sitting on a conveyor belt and travelling through the experience was not at all the experience we were expecting and not at all one we want to sit through again. On a positive note, our next couple of cocktails next door at the Elephant and Castle were amazing and we were encouraged to enjoy at our own pace, which put us back into a great frame of Mind prior to our show.

Food was ok, but the portion size of the Antipasto plate was not worth the $29.99 price tag. We mainly ordered pizza (very greasy) and pasta (pretty good). The server was very distracted and did not make us feel at home. No salads were offered (even if we had to pay) and no explanation of specials or what was included with our meals. Terrible service, doubtful that we will return.

We always enjoy having dinner here before the theatre - friendly and efficient staff, and generally good basic meals. Last evening I had the kale salad with the added chicken “ breast “. The chicken was a slice of the meat, not a breast, and was over cooked - dry. The salad was very good, but the “ breast’ disappointing.
