    The blowtorch sus...

The blowtorch sushi is heavenly and always makes my mouth water. If you sit at the sushi bar and opt for the nigiri sushi, they'll also offer to make you a piece at a time for maximum freshness. It's definitely my favourite sushi place in Toronto right now.

I generally steer clear of negative reviews but I felt is necessary to share our poor experience. My boyfriend and I chose to order the $99 prix fixe alongside the drink pairing for one. The main issue came when we were served cod that had not been deboned. He had roughly 8 pieces of bone and I had six. This was not a minor slip up but a huge error. The staff missed one of the drink pairings. Unfortunately I had to acknowledge this and it was brought out about five minutes after the nigiri was served. This was only made worse by the bone found in my yellowtail. The beauty of a tasting menu with a drink pairing is that the restaurant gets the opportunity to showcase their strengths and take you on a journey. We were not told what we were eating, I had no idea what the drink pairing was or why and we were served bone in two of our dishes. An absolute let down. We will not return.

Quality is job one at this elegant Entertainment District sushi and sashimi house, whose clean, minimal, modern take on this culinary favourite makes it a sweet choice for impressing a date or just indulging a personal appetite. On-line reviews resonate with declarations that this is “the best sushi in the city.” Taste, texture and colour are given equal billing by genius chefs trained in the time-tested art of this food’s preparation. JaBistroll — a sensual adventure in salmon, snow crab, uni, cucumber and tobiko — gets special mention, as does the famous sashimi platter. Seating is fairly limited, so reservations are recommended. Sit at the bar and catch a masterclass in Japanese culinary creativity.
