Meet the owner

Kevin Connell’s life was always centred around food. The New York native traveled around the world, opening nearly 30 restaurants and working as an executive chef across the globe from the Caribbean to Japan. But his desire was always to live in Canada, be a Canadian and open a restaurant that would allow him to showcase his passion for French food and wine. So, along with his business partner Toronto-native Taku Iwasaki, Kevin settled upon Bloor West Village, a neighbourhood he believed needed something other than pubs and fast food joints. After several months of renovation and getting the vibe just right, Kevin opened Maison Fou, a casually elegant French brasserie In November 2016.

Maison Fou loosely translates to "mad house" and according to Kevin, it perfectly reflects the restaurant itself. “We wanted the name to reflect how we approach things here. We want people to come in, tilt their heads and try to figure us out while getting a solid dining experience,” says Kevin. True to his vision, Maison Fou isn’t your typical, stuffy French restaurant. From the decor to the food, it’s diverse and meant to be more about fun dining than fine dining.
