It’s not often that a restaurant has tumbleweeds spilling from its ceiling, but then, Nota Bene is doing things a little bit differently. The downtown eatery has been holding court as one of Toronto’s top dining destinations for over a decade. But after continuing on the same path since day one, in 2016, chef-owner David Lee opted to give his space a fresh look and a revamped menu – a spring-cleaning of sorts, and just the type that involves bringing in tumbleweeds.

Too pricey for what you get.

We went here before a show so we were in a hurry. We ordered ONE appetizer, ONE entree and two 5 oz glasses of wine and the bill was $100.00 So essentially, the price per person is just under $100. The food was okay, but you definitely don't get what you pay for. We left still hungry. If you're asking why one appetizer, one entree- I got the appetizer since the entree list consisted of about 4 raw items (not what i was looking for) and 4 cooked dishes, none of which appealed to me. So i got some mushroom pasta appetizer. Minimal choices, minimal portion sizes, maximum money. The food is average- you can definitely have a higher quality experience at a more cost friendly place.

So-so birthday lunch

A lunchtime visit on my birthday after we spent the morning at the AGO. The usual business crowd, plus maybe a couple film festival types (twas the season). Service was somewhat sobby, but mostly professional, until our sparkling water glasses were filled with flat, tap water..... The caesar salad was typical, nothing special. The cavatelli pasta was excellent, with lots of mushrooms and delicious notes of truffle. Alas, Jennifer's beef brisket burger was disappointing, not well trimmed, not tasty and was served with cold, unremarkable fries. Had the server appeared again I might have sent it back. Being my birthday dessert was a must and we were not disappointed with a dense, rich, fudgy brownie and a sweet, creamy toffee pudding - the best part of the meal (and why they got a third star). The wine list lacked value - high priced, especially by the glass. Welcome to TO!! Leaving was a challenge - we could have just walked out, there was nary a server to be seen. Finally someone appeared, and we left feeling forgotten. Hmmm.... why would I return for that?

We went here a year ago, so i apologize if the menu has changed. Amazing food. Suckling pig + boudin noir tart was excellent. Best cooked bass as well. We had frenched onions and some greens on the side as well, both of which were very tasty. Excellent panacotta desert. This place is a definite must.

We had a lovely dinner with excellent service from Asia and the food was very tasty and portion size was perfect. We spoiled ourselves with the caviar and it was so well served and worth the cost ! Will be back for sure !

Excellent as always. A real world wide culinary experience with Asian cod, Moroccan lamb, Italian pasta and Canadian lobster for example. Such an interesting variety of wonderful dishes available. Love it plus the great service.

BEYOND AMAZING!!! My husband and I are "foodies" from Los Angeles, and we heard about your place from a Director friend.....WOW!! One of the best meals we've ever had. The DUCK salad was so complex yet light and delicious. Had the Venison and the Brussels Sprouts were beyond words!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE Nota Bene
