Meet the owner

Matty Matheson isn’t exactly a low-key figure. Originally from New Brunswick, the tatted-up chef is easily recognized around town, with his brutal honesty and potty mouth making for a winning combo when paired with his way with food. Toronto foodies and hipsters alike can find his mug all over Vice videos — from his investigatory reports on grub that’ll cure hangovers to his cross-Canada explorations on Keep It Canada.

But Matty’s main gig is heading the kitchen at Parts & Labour, the ever-cool bar-slash-resto that steered Parkdale’s revival.

    Group of 4 people. One vegetarian in the group who ordered the carbonara pasta minus the double smoked bacon. Portion size was SHOCKINGLY small looked like a half order. Definitely not worth the price. Also had the fried chicken special sides of fries were also VERY small. Price in restaurant for special was different than posted on the sign outside. Service was excellent very nice server. Big open space with no one in it we were there early though on a Tuesday night shortly after 6:00pm maybe things pick up later.

    Had a great time. The server was extremely friendly, funny and helpful. We both had the P&L burger and it was all that I expected and more! Will definitely come here again.

    Used to love going here but in recent months it’s gone so downhill. I didn’t realize that P&L was just an overpriced burger joint. It truly shows poor management when not one but THREE main dishes are unavailable on a busy Saturday night. First server was friendly, but when other servers appeared at different times in the night to try to upsell us, we were seriously turned off. Burger was lost in the gigantic slightly stale bun and overall we felt rushed through our meal. Food came out extremely quickly, which made me question if our burgers were just sitting there pre-made under a heat lamp. What we thought would be a 1.5-2 hour experience turned into a 45 minute waste of time.

    We had the crab fettuccine, and lamb shoulder. Both were mediocre. The burger was quite good though, I'll give you that. But I expected a little bit better for the mains considering the price. The lamb was charred too much on the outside, the middle was soft but we preferred less char. When asking the waitress what style of cooking we could have she said you really just get what you get. The cocktails were well done tho, so 4 stars on that!

    Beef tartare was good. Charred broccoli was above average. Mains (beef tenderloin and crab carbonara) were disappointing; not enough value. Absurd dessert pricing- $26 for a doughnut!

    Had a wonderful experience! The staff were welcoming, and our server was genuinely kind, easy to get along with, and went above and beyond for us that night. The food is exceptional! Will be coming back to try the rest of the menu for sure. Will reccomend to all my friends and family.

    Always amazing when we're here. Hubby always gets the Nashville chicken and I had the dan dan noodles AND we split the p & l burger. It's always soooooo good. And they make the best old fashioned :) never disappointed.

    What a great experience! We had only been to Parts & Labour once before and had a very good time, and this was even better. Menu was outstanding - we split the broccoli and cauliflower to start and both were great! Hot chicken was great (but crazy hot - the server warned me!) Service was great - a real team approach so many folks looked after us and all were 1st rate. We loved it - can't wait to go back!

    First time visiting! Our server Clint was great! Never would have known it was his third day. Couple snafus with the wine list inventory but we were offered great comparable offers to replace what we had ordered but you were out of.

    The service was fantastic. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable without being over bearing. The food was sublime and the cocktails were both humorous and delicious. Easily one of the best meals I have had... ever. This is my new go-to restaurant and I will recommend it to any one who will listen. Just a wonderful experience all around.

    My boyfriend has always wanted to come to this restaurant, so when he visited from Winnipeg I made sure to make a reservation. Had a great first time experience here! Food was amazing, the Caesars were the best, and the staff was so hospitable and kind! Thanks for the awesome service.

    Air ducts were so loud! Beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked, could have been better with a different sauce instead of mushrooms since there was oyster mushrooms on top. Onion ring was hard. Entire meal was cold. Carbonara was tasty and halibut delicious!

    We come to P+L often on burger night. Had family visiting from England and wanted a fun place to get the family tigether. We had two tables of 10 side by side. Food was great... service was great. Everyone enjoyed themselves!

    Great bartender. I asked for a "refreshing tequila drink" and he made me something delicious. Very nice guy. P & L burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The bun and bacon jam made it. Great experience overall.

    This Parkdale restaurant has spawned The P&L Burger (the slim space on Queen West is always crammed with devotees) and P&L Catering (they just did a superior stint last week at Luminato with their Mexican Block Party), so it deserves a lot of credit. And a visit if you’ve never been, a revisit if it’s been awhile. Just this Summerlicious dinner item alone is enough to cause a frenzy: Fried Chicken Thigh and Leg with collards ham hock and white navy beans, lemon.
