Sake Bar Kushi, located at Yonge & Eglinton, offers an authentic Japanese experience. Upon entering, the staff will yell out a customary welcome greeting in Japanese. The dark wood interior, black walls with white drawings, and red lights create a warm, sophisticated atmosphere. Specializing in “kushi,” Japanese-style skewers grilled over charcoal, are available with meat, vegetables, tofu and seafood selections, there is a lot of variations to choose from. You can also select from other types of food, including sashimi, teriyaki and karaage. Course menus are also available, that include a salad, starter, kushi, entrée and dessert. With 30 kinds of Japanese sake, a bar area, booth seating and Zashiki, a Japanese traditional-style large room where shoes are removed, both small and large parties can be accommodated. Thank you for a wonderful experience and the sushi was impeccable. Loved every piece of sashimi chosen by the chef and the bbq unagi roll was one of the best.

Kushi is one of my favourite spots, the food is always ultra fresh with beautiful presentation. The staff are consistently friendly, and fun, and the great ambiance and attention to detail always make it such a pleasure to visit.

It is one of our favourite Izakaya restaurant. Service and food quality are always good. Yesterday was Valentine's Day and the restaurant was full with people waiting in line. I was surprise they can gave us our table on time and food came in steady speed with quality.

We left without eating because the owner/manager made us wait to be seated when we said that three out of our group of 14 had cancelled. He said that we had to call ahead to warn him, and I explained that I did not know until 15 minutes prior. He said fine, but that all 11 of us had to stand at the front and wait. Our reservation should have been ready! He came to ID our group and refused to recognize an international ID card. His rude treatment made us leave without eating. Very disappointed.

Just discovered a new favourite dish called Omen?, which is a pot of fish cakes and other interesting selections of seafood. The Yellow Fin tuna was some of the freshest I have ever eaten.

Great service , great food - but the staff are so strict on where to wait/sit when you’re not seated at your table . My friends and I were waiting at the front door waiting to get seated and they pushed us into a separate area , then when we were leaving, we were waiting by the door as a friend was in the bathroom , and again they are so pushy/against us standing by the front entrance.

We have always been interested in the exterior of this restaurant, but thought it was more sake bar than restaurant. Are we ever glad we gave it a try! Everything we had was absolutely wonderful. Well presented, delicious and oh, boy - we will be back!

Great place with a good vibe. The sushi is expensive but we'll worth it. Much better than most other places I've been. Garlic butter edamame is a real winner. The gyoza has good flavour, not the bland gyoza you get everywhere else. The service is friendly and quick. Try out this restaurant and you'll want to come back again and again. Reservations for groups is recommended.

KATE was our server, & she was AMAZING. she knew exactly who we were fr: the last time (which was our 1st time) we were there. She knew we were celebrating a birthday- while my boyfriend went to the bathroom she set up a birthday dessert for him for when he got back. The food is always delicious & consistent, truly makes us feel like we’re back on our Trip to Japan✌🏻 Thank you Kate!

We were in a closed-in booth and the front door was opposite letting in blasts of cold air - not nice. he service here is always prompt and courteous. The food quality is generally uneven - sometimes very good, others acceptable.

We sat Japanese style for the first time here; pleasant but the seat cushions would be better with backs, as in some Japanese restaurants. Service here is always attentive. The dishes were slightly better than previous visits - the spicy mayonnaise shrimp were excellent - nicely crisp, but the rice was dry and dull - not Japanese style at all. Overall an enjoyable meal.

I am aware that we could only enter to the back room when all group member are together, but we had a senior who couldn't make it on time and we were told we still have to wait until he gets there. I explained the situation and you let us in at the end, but we ended up loosing almost 30 min. for 2 hours booking. I don't think the policy doesn't really make sense, the more time we loose, the more order you would loose. we could have ordered more food & drink but we didn't have enough time to do so. The waiter was great though. The hamachi was a special for the day but it was dry.

One of Yonge and Eglinton’s most excellent date spots, Sake Bar Kushi boasts a dark, dreamy interior paired with an expansive array of small izakaya dishes. Kushi is the kind of place that demands a long sitting, the time easily filled with chatting and masticating through the menu. Start with the barbecued unagi (eel), on to takoyaki (deep-friend octopus dumplings), then hokke (grilled mackerel), a little bit of Toro sashimi (tuna belly, oh the tuna belly!) and wrap up with a chicken katsu don (a rice bowl with deep fried chicken, egg, and onion) – keeping customers Buddha-bellied and happy.

Tempura does amazing things to vegetables. A lightly-battered vegetable of your choice is deep-fried until crisp and golden. The result is a crunchy morsel of tender goodness.
