Meet the owner

Rita Khlafon and her husband, chef Yan Khlafon, spent years travelling around Eastern Europe. When they finally settled in Toronto, Rita, who is originally from the Ukraine, and Yan, who hails from Russia, noticed the lack of Eastern European restaurants throughout the city.

In 2012, they opened the first Schnitzel Hub at Yonge and Steeles in Toronto, which was meant to be a grab-and-go takeout place serving homemade schnitzels with a few creative twists. “Our customers kept telling us that the food was amazing and that they wanted to enjoy it with a beer or wine,” recalls Rita, who immediately applied for a liquor license to meet the needs of their customers. Schnitzel Hub at Yonge and Steeles — originally a fast-food schnitzel eatery — was then renovated into a cozy sit-down

Enter the Schnitzel Hub on Yonge and St. Clair, Rita and Yan’s midtown offshoot, catering to everyone in the area from families and the corporate crowd to those who simply want to enjoy the refreshing new flavours of Eastern Europe.

Awesome place for an amazing meal. Perogies, schnitzel and spaetzle are the best. Service can be a little slow but well worth the wait!

Server was attentive, cordial and got everyone's order correct. Food is very good for this type of food. Not a fancy 5 star type food place but excellent for a hardy schnitzel place. Spatzel were excellent. Will return.

The decor and setting exceeded our expectations. The food was excellent and the portions very generous. As great as the schnitzel was, it was the handmade perogies that were the star of the show. Service was great. Our waitress was actually from the Ukraine and it felt like we were visiting Kiev. If you enjoy Ukrainian food this restaurant is a must visit!

Ate here for the first time recently. We were a party of 4. We shared perogies to start and they were very tasty. The only complaint is that they give minimal sour cream to go with. It's so minimal I thought they must surely have made a mistake. You can order extra sour cream for $.75 - which I will do next time - probably order 2 or 3 extra sour creams to make sure there is enough. We all had schnitzel as our main. All agreed the schnitzel was good however, a bit bland. We salted and peppered to our individual liking and then it was great. A bit more cranberry sauce on the side would have been good. The spaezle were very good and tasty. Desserts were wonderful. They are baked in-house and we shared the strudel and the molten lava cake. Sauces on the side for each of these dishes were ample in quantity. We all agreed we would go back and try something other than the schnitzel next time just to try other things on the menu.

I'm new to German cuisine, but the German half of the family loved it (especially the 4 and 11 year old). Food took a little long to arrive, but we didn't mind as we were out for the evening. Clean environment, generous portions, smiling and friendly service, fresh pilsner on tap... We all would go back. The beet salad is delicious and fresh, schnitzel are huge, and rabbit is boneless. For this alone... worth the money paid.

5 stars across the board! Service is friendly and efficient, food is delicious with good portions, and atmosphere is cozy but modern. Great for a smart casual meal for two but also good for a group of 8! If you enjoy mixed drinks, try the apricot whiskey sour! YUM! If only mixed drinks were available for take out....Loving this restaurant! We'll be back again soon!

Went to this place for the first time. Took my father there for his birthday. There was a maximum of 13 people in the restaurant (we were a party of 7). Service was very bad - the serving staff was not attentive to our table. We ordered and when the food eventually came (~40 min) later it was respectable. We brought a cake for Dad and wasn't informed until we got the bill that we would be charged for doing so. We put up a stink and the charge was removed from the bill. The kicker of the day was when I paid the bill with my credit card I didn't leave a tip via the machine - my intention was to leave a cash tip. As I was putting my wallet away to help my physically/mentally disabled father with his coat one of the servers sarcastically said, 'Thank you! Very generous of you!'. Which ended up getting him a nice goose egg on the tip. I would never go back - ever!

Weird atmosphere with brown table clothes and wood chips on the wall. Don't know what decor they are going for here. The service was good, a little rushed since we were only one of 2-3 groups in dining. The place was empty. THe food was adequate but grossly overpriced, way overpriced for what was served.
