Meet the owner

Little do Daniel and Lisa Clarke realize it, but their restaurant is probably the best thing to happen to Leslieville’s foodie scene in a long time.

“It’s always an evolution,” says Daniel, a humble (and talented) native Aussie who’s been doing the food thing for 10 years in Toronto. “The minute you think you have it all figured out is the minute you start to lose a little bit.”

From the outside, Skin + Bones might appear like an upscale spot for the hip, young and fashionable dinner crowd, but the restaurant is very relaxed inside, with friendly, genuine staff who make you feel at home the minute you walk through the door. “We just want you to eat good food and drink well,” says Daniel.

Daniel and Lisa formerly lived and worked in Toronto’s west end and moved to Leslieville shortly after they opened Skin + Bones in 2012.

As always amazing . I truly like the back room in the evening . When I come for brunch only the front room is available and it's way too crowded .

Great meal, with an excellent wine pairing. We know they don't normally do a VQA focused pairing but having two Ontario wines was excellent!

I haven't eaten at Skin + Bones in 2 years. I had twice before this time. It was my favourite restaurant of the year one year and it still does not disappoint!

I had the meatballs and asparagus and they were both outstanding. The service was very good, as well; attentive without being intrusive. I sat at the front of the restaurant by the open window. It was nice but a bit noisy with the traffic. The only thing that would have made the experience better would be a back patio to enjoy a great meal in the beautiful weather.

Skin+Bones is consistently a five-star experience. We went for the Riesling League Final (wine tasting event) and stayed for a full dinner. The servers are charming and helpful, the space is warm and welcoming, and the food is consistently excellent. My partner and I live in the neighbourhood and this is a great date night spot for us as well as a local restaurant we frequently show off to guests.

Everything was phenominal! It was our first visit to Skin and Bones and we couldn't have had a better experience! The good was amazing, our server (and all of the servers who delivered food, etc.) were knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. I couldn't think of a single bad thing to say if I wanted to! We will definitely be returning in the future!

Excellent visit, we did the chef menu and wine pairing. Food was very good, although we had seen another dessert which we were hoping for so although what we got was tasty we were a little disappointed. The waiter was very good, very knowledgeable about the dishes and wine and also fun!!

We had the tasting menu. The food was terrific but the portions were small and I was still hungry when done. For example, the entree was rainbow trout and the meal put on the table was clearly a meal for one person, not two

The food is delicious, the atmosphere is all high-ceilings/warm-industrial and the wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always seeming to magically appear just when we need them. I've been here before and I'll visit again. And again. Love this place.

Hi Skin+Bones! I hope you're well and in good spirits! How lucky for me to have dined three times at your establishment over the past couple of weeks, when it had been a couple of months since I'd made it your way. I rekindled my love affair with you when an out of province friend - who's a mover and shaker in Canada's food industry - requested I take him to 'the dining establishment in Toronto he shouldn't miss'. In considering my Top Eight culinary favs in the city, I chose S+B for its all encompassing ease. First, S+B offers culinary excellence within walking distance of my Home, which merits personally supporting - and championing - as all Riverdale, Riverside and Leslieville residents who love fine dining should. Second, the S+B ambience balances comfort, utility, and design while honouring the vernacular of the space and neighbourhood. It's 'industrial origins meets food gallery'. Third, I've never experienced a whiff of foodie pomp and circumstance in all my visits. For one who subscribes to 'easy breezy', I loathe restaurants that are too precious. Which is why I consider you my Five Star Local. My three friends and I unanimously agreed the meal was flawless. From start to finish the kitchen completely blew our taste buds away (I've since become obsessed with the Spicy Grilled Octopus, the Roasted Carrot Salad, and your Roasted Cauliflower!). And the service remains approachable yet impeccable. Those culinary memories have prompted my return a couple of times since. You're my 'Go To' which, for someone who loves his food - and the myriad of options we have in Toronto - serves as testament to how exceptional you are. See you soon! Steve from urbaneer.com
