Soup so good I wanted to weep

This is a tiny perfect bistro in the best French Canadian tradition. It is a small place with tables tightly packed, but oh... the food! The soupe aux poissons (fish soup) was so good I wanted to weep. It was truly among the best soups I've ever had. Delicious black cod with roasted potatoes as well. It's a crowded little spot with excellent service but you definitely need a reservation. I'll be back!

Typique.

Treat mom to a great dinner in Montreal

Treat mom to a great dinner in Montreal

A classic like L’Express in the Plateau is perfect for Mother’s Day. This Montreal institution has stood the test of time – their jar of gherkins waiting on your table is classic L’Express, as is their dishes, which haven’t changed much since this Parisian bistro opened in 1980. Their veal and mushroom ravioli remains a signature dish, as well as their onglet steak with shallot butter, and please don’t forget their steak tartare, prepared exactly like it would be in France.

Take a trip to Paris without leaving Montreal

Take a trip to Paris without leaving Montreal

The waiters in aprons, the black and white checkerboard parquet floor, the tables close together, the white tablecloths, the mayonnaise boiled egg and maple profiteroles are enough to make Parisians (just a bit) jealous!

Montreal’s best first date spots to start something special

Montreal’s best first date spots to start something special

Restaurants come and go in Montreal but L’Express remains. This French bistro opened in 1980 and they have been wowing patrons for years. Modeled after a bistro in Paris, dinner at L’Express is tried, tested and true. Their steak tartare and onglet steak with shallot butter are well known all over the city. And their veal and mushroom ravioli is a bit of heaven in your mouth. Stick to a classic like L’Express!
