formidable!

I do wish I could have given this experience 5 stars, but it was such a disappointment. We had an 8pm reservation. By 9pm we still had not received our appetizer, and that’s because the waiter forgot to put it in. The place is stunning, and ambiance was fantastic, we had also told them it was our anniversary, so we were given a fabulous table. But that’s where the magic ends. We told the waiter we wanted to eat before the next door 1608 bar closed, we finally finished with paying (again, not because we milked it, but because e wry thing took FOREVER). By 10:30 we headed over to the other bar and was promptly greeted by the same hostess who had seated us. After spends several hundred dollars at the restaurant, we indicated we wanted one last drink to cap off our evening and anniversary. She then got very anointed and said that was impossible, that the bar was full. We pointed out that more than half the bar was empty and she then said it was because they were short staffed! I said you’re trying to tell me, that the 1 minute it will take to pour 2 glasses of wine, cash is put, a $70+ check and an easy $15 or so tip is “too much” a struggle for them?! For a town that is trying so desperately to bring in tourism, something they desperately need to survive, this was not the response expected. She then said to come back tomorrow afternoon when they open to try again. So us, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, because the meal itself was so fantastic the day before, came back 5 minutes before opening. Where we were greeted with an even worse and more rude woman who said that they were not going to be open on Sundays and Monday’s because of Covid and the “tight quarters”! I told her that less than 18 hours before you told us yo come back, and now you’re telling us you can’t be open because of Covid? Then maybe they should post that on their website or IG page, and me and the other 40 people behind me would not of shown up at opening! So long story short, beautiful place, fabulous food, HORRIBLE customer service! Save you money and spend it at a restaurant in the city that actually respects you as a customer and actually cares about your business!

We are celebrating our 24th Anniversary and decided to come to Quebec. Extremely satisfied with the service and the food; our server, Andre was the best! He explained every dish, as we did the tasting menu and pair with wine, just EXCELLENCE! We will definitely come back and will recommend it!

Great ambiance and service. Average quality and inventiveness of food as a factor of its price. Local “amazing” wine - a rip off for $140. Does not give credit to the restaurant to serve it there. I agree with sommeliers statement that one can identify it in a blind test - even a non expert would be hard pressed to miss that :) There are better options in town.

It was special having dinner at the Chateau Frontenac but sadly the food was disappointing and not worth the money. We had Fois Gras for two served on a wooden platter with only our used bread plates to eat it off of. The complimentary fillet mignon was good as was the sorbet. We order out duck often and it was the worst we ever had. It was so tough and hard to chew that it was almost impossible to eat.

Initially, I was a bit sceptical with the new brunch formula with service at the table. There was no reason for that, however. Fantastic meal! Wonderful atmosphere, delicious and abundant food, attentive waiter, very professional and with a good sense of humour. All in all an unforgettable experience, which underlines the reputation of this fabulous place.

The restaurant is beautiful. I ordered the Nov tasting (5 courses) and my husband ordered the red deer. We shared the foie gras platter which was perfect. His deer was cooked properly and was tender. But, the sauce lacked flavor. Tasting menu; the 2ND course was quite disappointing. Cold and lacked distinctive flavor. It took 30 min for the main courses to arrive and We asked twice for our drink order. My lamb chop was well done and dry. The dessert was stale. Not worth the ~ $350 + tip.

Outstanding!! An experience we will never forget! From the time we entered the Champlain Restaurant to our departure a few hours later, we were treated like royalty! On entry we were greeted with a glass of champagne, and seated at a table with wing back chairs in front of a beautiful fireplace. The ambience and decor were amazing! Johnathon our server was awesome! He was courteous, attentive, and patiently helped me download the QR code for the extensive wine list. He made our evening very special! Our food was phenomenal! Cooked to perfection and presented in a very colourful, artistic way. The only drawback is, that it is an 8 hour train ride away, and I can not come back as often as I would like!

Food was nice. Service at the beginning before ordering was nice. We asked for more water and never got it. Also no one came around to refill it either. Our waiter Jeff Beau cleared our table and didn't give us new utensils for our main course, instead he was with the other tables and never came back to check on us so we sat with our main course infront of us waiting for another waiter to come by to ask for utensils and he had to tell Jeff Beau that he had forgotten. Then a lady at the end, escorted us to the exit after we paid and she came rushing over to us checking to see if we paid, Not sure if any one else gets escorted or if you guys check other people to see if they paid but its definitely not a nice feeling when leaving the restaurant escorted.

En Anglais: The best dining experience I’ve had in a very long time. Jean-Francois made us feel as though we were the only people in the restaurant. He is a superstar. Marc, merci for the excellent recommendations for champagne, caviar and foie gras. The meal was otherworldly. The birthday boy will never forget this evening. And I am eternally grateful to Le Champlain for making the evening memorable. Stephen Brown

We thought that the wine pairing with the meal was a rip off at $125 per person for cheap wines from the cheap regions of Europe. Not what we expect from the Chateau Frontenac. By the way, i have priced these wines in the LCBO and they are cheap.

We enjoyed our ‘Grand Tour’ very much. The service (Daniel) and the ambience were wonderful. The food was very good (course 1,2 and 3). Course 4 (scallop) and (canard) were cold. I sent the scallop back and it came back tepid. I ate it anyway. It was tasty. The duck course was also tepid/cool but I ate it anyway. The duck was well presented but cool in temperature. The one item that was a disappointment was the paper string like stuff. It was bland, dry and very tasteless. The wine pairing went well. Our guests loved their guinea fowl although the found the temperature tepid rather than hot as well. Thanks for the lovely evening.

... but not perfect. The wine pairing with my main (a superb heavy Rhone red) was great with my duck, but terrible with my wife's whitefish. We had different tasting menus but the wine pairings were identical. The Sauterne with desert was great for both.
