Avenue Gourmande 2016: go out and discover Mont-Royal Avenue

In what has become an annual tradition, Gourmet Avenue is returning to the heart of the Plateau for a fifth year. You’re hereby invited by a number of restaurateurs for a long walk along Mont-Royal Avenue on the 17th and 18th of September 2016 to taste local and hand-crafted products, chat with the owners and local producers and attend cooking classes! Here are some of the restaurants taking part.

La Panthère Verte

1
145, av du Mont-Royal O, Montréal, QC H2T 2S9

This small chain of organic restaurants (and now also a food truck) has one very specific mission: to provide quality local and environmentally friendly food. So it’s for good reason that you get a discount when you bring your own containers! As part of Gourmet Avenue, stop in at the Mount Royal branch to sample some of their homemade products such as falafel, smoothies and a whole variety of veggie dishes.

Blueboy Frozen Yogurt / Yogourt Glacé

2
150, av du Mont-Royal E, Montréal, QC H2T 1P1

Fall isn’t officially with us yet (we’re bracing ourselves for September 22) so you can still enjoy the summer and stop in at 150 Mount Royal Avenue East for a cold yogurt, sorbet or maybe even a waffle.

Café La Touche

3
164, av du Mont-Royal E, Montréal, QC H2T 1P1

We like to wake ourselves up with a nice shot of coffee of the organic (of course!) and fair-trade (what else?) variety from Indonesia and Ethiopia. It’s an opportunity to meet barista and artisan Arsene Naibandian, who will no doubt entertain and educate you on the importance of fair trade coffee.

Miss Choco

QC

Miss Choco will spoil you this weekend with Monarch chocolate tasting sessions in her shop. Also, if you drop by on Saturday, September 17, you’ll have the chance to meet master chocolatier Daniel Haran.

Maison Des Bieres Et Plus Inc

4
4485, rue de Lanaudière, Montréal, QC H2J 3P3

You’ll surely be overjoyed to learn that you can go in for a tasting session here... of beers by Quebec microbreweries. Once the shock has worn off, it’s also worth noting that you’ll have an opportunity to meet a representative from organic microbrewery Beau’s (on Saturday) and another from organic microbrewer Castor (on Sunday).

La Maison Du Rôti

5
1969, av du Mont-Royal E, Montréal, QC H2H 1J5

It will be well worth your while heading further east to visit this butcher that needs no introduction. Taste some of the homemade products such as black pudding, a homemade sandwich on a pita, and the veal steak prepared with mustard and tarragon.

Le Pétrin Fou Inc

6
1592 av du Mont-Royal E, Montréal, QC H2J 1Z2

This bakery, located right next to the Avenue deLorimier, is offering up several of its baked goods for tasting, as well as a meeting with artisan baker Mario Pariso on Saturday in the early afternoon.

La Mise En Place

7
4492, rue Garnier, Montréal, QC H2J 3S2

This delicatessen on Garnier Avenue (or at least next to it, so not strictly cheating) will be in the big tent opposite the Mount Royal metro, awaiting you with its cream of mushroom and truffle-scented arancini and fresh tomato and northern shrimp soup.

And it's a sixth time in a row for the MTLàTABLE festival, playing matchmaker between foodies and Montreal’s fine food establishments. From November 2 to 16, choose from $21, $31 or $41 multi-course meals to start your culinary journey right here in Montreal. Here’s what’s on the menu at some of the restaurants taking part. In Montreal, several of the city's restaurants are aiming to take the grilled cheese sandwich to new culinary heights. This is clearly a boon for the cheese lovers (that's all of us, right?) who get to enjoy these delectable creations. And to help you find your way, we’ve pulled together a list of gooey grillers you won’t want to miss! [photo credit: courtesy Olive et Gourmando]
