Celebrate prohibition's end at Edmonton happy hour spots

We’ve all been there, with the highs and lows the daily grind brings. Finally closing that sale, getting that promotion, long day at the office, tough meeting, a demanding boss (and so on, and so on, and so on). But the good news is, there’s a happy hour waiting for you around every corner of this city. Grab your friends, order a drink and bottom’s up!

Sugar Bowl Coffee & Juice Bar

1
10922 88 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 0Z1

Daily from 2 to 7 p.m., you can enjoy discounted drinks at this fun little spot in Old Strathcona. Though the drink specials vary during happy hour, the friendly staff and lively ambiance do not. There’s lots to choose from, such as more than a hundred kinds of beer, a great wine selection and, of course, tasty and fun cocktails. Tom Collins, anyone?

Tavern on Whyte

Every day is a happy day here, but only 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. is happy (four) hour(s). Domestic bottles and highballs are $4, shooters are $4.50 and chicken wings are $5. Who doesn’t love a pint with some wings for less than 10 bucks? Of course, every day has its own additional specials, so it’s like a surprise every time you come out.

The Next Act Pub & Grill

3
8224 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4E6

Happy hour at Kelly’s is more like a full day of happy. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily (that’s right, folks), you can enjoy discounted bevvies. With $4.75 domestic pints, bottles and highballs to $5.50 house wine, $5.25 premium spirits and $6.25 import pints, who says you can’t have a drink with lunch?

The Common

6
9910 109 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5K 1H5

The Common is anything but. Happy hour is weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. and offers not only great discounts on booze ($2 off wine and pints, $1 off domestic bottles, cans and highballs) but also specials on food to ensure you have something in your belly to soak up the alcohol. Mmm, truffle popcorn!

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate. It’s no surprise this drink was originally dubbed the “elixir of the gods.” Regardless of the variety you select, or whether you opt for the simplest hot chocolate on the menu, all I can say is ... don’t forget the marshmallows.
You don’t have to travel to Paris to have a true fine-dining experience; you can enjoy an upscale dinner, complete with a five-course meal and fine wine, right here at home. Victoria is a fine-dining destination with an excellent reputation – where talented chefs enjoy crafting delicious gourmet dishes from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Paired with a nice cup of coffee or topped with a scoop of ice cream, pie is unbeatable comfort food. And yet it faces stiff competition from cupcakes as the city’s dessert of choice. Well, pie is fighting back with old fashioned deliciousness as well as new and tantalizing flavours.
