Cool down with the best iced drinks in Edmonton

When the sun starts making daily appearances and the snow retreats (for now), it marks the beginning of iced coffee and iced tea season. Break out your shorts and tank tops and stroll on down to one of these fine establishments, all of which serve some of the most refreshing iced drinks in town.

Cha Island Tea Co

1
10332 81 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 1X2

The owner of Cha Island Tea Co is obsessed with iced tea. He once said the only reason he bothers to serve hot tea is because it is cold in Edmonton for so much of the year. Still, iced teas are his specialty. He mixes flowers, herbs spices and leaves into a hot brew, then pours them over ice. These mixtures, made with all natural ingredients, are sweetened with agave syrup. The café also serves more traditional iced tea, but made from freshly brewed hot black, green or rooibos teas.

Credo Coffee

2
10134 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 1A7

Credo Café serves fair trade Intelligentsia coffee, TeaGuy loose leaf tea and healthy juices from local health nuts Glow Juicery. Their mochas, lattes and cappuccinos all taste amazing iced, thanks to the strong but smooth flavour of Intelligentsia coffee. If you are overheating and in need of extra fruits and veggies for the day, the juices from Glower Juicery are the perfect healthy treat.

Nosh Cafe

3
102-10235 124 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 1P9

Though this Indian café is known for its iced Chai lattes, don’t overlook their other iced beverages. They serve iced mochas, iced lattes and several kinds of thick, frothy milkshakes, including Chai, Kashmiri Chai, mango and chocolate peanut butter (how decadent!). Located on 124 Street, this café is the ideal spot to stop in for a quick cool down with a delicious icy drink on a hot summer day.

The Tea Girl

4
12411 Stony Plain Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 3N3

This locally owned shop is located in the heart of the Glenora neighbourhood. It serves almost 200 kinds of tea, all of which are available for purchase in their cute tea tins. There are tons of varieties, including white, yellow, oolong, rooibos, herbal, fruit, black, pu-erh and yerba mate tea. All of their teas can be ordered iced, for a cooling, pleasurable drink. In summer, their iced lavender lemonade is one of the most popular drinks, but matcha smoothies are also high up on the list.

Elm Cafe

5
100-10140 117 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5K 1X3

This cute little café is known for making its own version of an Arnold Palmer drink, a mixture of iced tea and lemonade (named for the American golfer who first made the drink popular). Elm Café also serves the most delicious iced almond milk lattes you’ll ever drink – creamy, decadent and never bitter. While their iced drinks aren’t cheap, they are made from superior ingredients, such as their house-made vanilla syrup.

Transcend Coffee

6
8708 109 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 1E9

Transcend Coffee roasts its own delicious beans right here in Edmonton. That translates into a super-fresh cup of coffee, every time. Ask for an iced coffee or latte to cool down on hot days. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the non-bitter, fresh-tasting flavour. Or, if you prefer tea, their London Fog tea latte blend also tastes excellent over ice. The best part is you can buy bags of their beans or tea and replicate your favourite iced drinks at home.

Remedy Cafe

7
10310 124 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 1R2

The 124 Street location whips up a variety of icy beverages, including milkshakes, iced Chai tea lattes, mango lassis and Italian sodas. All of their drinks can be made with 1 or 3 per cent milk or almond or soy milk. There is nothing more refreshing on a summer day than one of Remedy’s famous Chai lattes served ice cold. You can also order the Kashmiri Chai lattes iced, if you want to avoid caffeine.

Waves Coffee House

8
6039 199 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5T 2P4

A lot of their iced drinks look more like a decadent dessert than a beverage, with plenty of whipped cream and chocolate shavings. But, if you’re in the mood for an ice-cold treat, this is the ideal spot to find one. You can indulge in everything from an iced dark Belgian mocha and an iced milk Belgian chocolate to an iced matcha latte or rooibos shaken iced tea. One of their signature drinks is the iced Canadiano – fresh espresso served over ice, with ice-cold water added to make the perfect iced coffee.

Ice cream is an awesome treat year-round, so it’s lucky that Edmonton’s ice cream shops have enough variety to let you try a different flavour every day of the year. But as we all know, ice cream truly shines in summer, when the heat makes you crave an ice-cold treat. These ice cream shops serve decadent ice creams in creative flavours – and they’re made with fresh ingredients, too. [Image credit: iStock/RapidEye]
Margaritas are the ideal summer patio drink but they can in fact be enjoyed year-round. I’ve rung in New Year’s Eve with a marg or seven, and I’ve never thought it to be out of season. These tasty margaritas have a bit of a kick and a lot of creativity.
A first date can be make or break – increase your odds by picking the perfect restaurant. These Edmonton dining establishments will bring the cupids flying over to your table and help you get to that second date with their romantic ambiance and excellent food and wine.
