Not everyone is a morning person but I’m sure you’ll turn into one with the right food. Edmonton has an abundance of delicious places that serve breakfast in the morning or even all-day for those afternoon snoozers. These places are the reason why you should get out of bed. They serve breakfast all week long, not just on the weekend as brunch!
Artisan Resto is a café on the far end of Whyte Avenue that offers all day breakfast, along with their regular lunch menu. If you’re looking for traditional breakfast dishes, this is the place to check out. The breakfast menu is kept super simple. I also recommend the sweet Belgian waffles, either as your meal or as dessert.
This is a hungry house for a hungry breakfast muncher! Hap’s is located on the west end and their menu has a wide variety of choices for breakfast. It’s a bit overwhelming but once you set your mind on something, you’ll be satisfied for the rest of your day. It’s also one of the rare places in the city that offers breakfast past 11 a.m.
High Level Diner is a quaint restaurant with a comfortable vibe. Their breakfast includes their famous cinnamon buns, along with dishes using locally sourced ingredients. A breakfast special is also served five days a week until 3 p.m. for those who would rather sleep in! It includes eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. In the mood for something sweet? Order the blueberry pancakes – they’re huge and fluffy, unlike any other place.
NYBC makes me feel like I’m inside somebody’s home. It’s just so homey and has the coolest décor inside, although it is a bit small. The place is well known for their eggs Benedict and bagels (surprise, surprise!). Lovers of eggs benny will rejoice at having so many different benny choices to pick from - more than 20. For those who aren’t a fan of eggs Benedict, the cinnamon bun French toast is quite a treat.
It’s kind of a secret that Zenari’s has breakfast, since most people only go there for lunch or dinner. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s an Italian style café in Manulife Place downtown. They serve the most outstanding breakfast bagel I’ve ever tasted in my life! There’s also breakfast pizza, as well, with eggs of course. Add an egg to something and it’s instantly okay for breakfast! Their breakfast is served till closing, along with their regular menu.
If you’re looking for a unique breakfast place, De Dutch is where you should eat! It’s a cheery and inviting restaurant on Jasper Avenue. Based in Vancouver, they specialize in Dutch food, particularly Dutch breakfast and lunch. Their central item? The pannekoeken, which is basically a huge pancake that comes with different toppings, both savoury and sweet. It’s perfect for the adventurous breakfast eater.
Hathaway’s Dinner is a hidden gem in a north side residential area. Here, you’ll find your breakfast diner classics served up all day! Eggs, pancakes, French toast and steak and eggs are a few of the items that can be found here. Their dishes come in different size, which is perfect, since some prefer a hearty meal while others want something light in the morning. The prices are very reasonable, so it’s definitely worth the drive down to check out.
Under the High Wheel is currently my go-to breakfast spot. It’s such a cute little place, located in the same space as Da Capo Café. Their ingredients are local and their food is fresh to order. There are quite a few choices for breakfast, which is served until 4 p.m., and I’ll warn you that it’s quite filling! I usually order the delicious, sweet Belgian waffle topped with Chantilly cream and tons of fresh fruit. I always get their herb-roasted potatoes on the side, as well - gotta have that mixture of savoury and sweet for breakfast!
Located in the heart of Garneau lies Leva Café. It emits a relaxing hipster vibe and serves a delicious breakfast menu, available seven days a week. Breakfast pizzas, frittatas, smashed avocado sandwiches and a smoked salmon platter are some of your choices to start your day off with! It’s certainly not your ordinary breakfast meal. For those who need some caffeine to wake them up, luckily Leva specializes in making café drinks, as well.
