Grab a bite to eat during the Vancouver Folk Music Festival

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival returns to the city this month with nightly concerts at Jericho Beach on July 13-16. If you’re looking to grab a bite to eat before or after watching your favourite performers, check out these nearby restaurants in Point Grey and Kits that are just a brisk walk (or bike ride) from the Main Stage.

The Cove Pub

3681 4th Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6R 1P2

The Cove has a lot going for it: the neighbourhood watering hole offers nightly drink specials (so you can get more booze for your buck), a cozy interior and is just a 10-minute walk from the waterfront. The dinner menu focuses on American classics prepared with a West Coast twist – seafood faves include beer-battered Pacific cod and chips or seared B.C. salmon with sesame soy ginger. The kitchen is open late Fridays and Saturdays serving up a special late-night menu of poutine, nachos and other delicious snack foods designed to take care of those after-dark munchies.

Displace Hashery

3293 4th Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6K 1R8

You’ll find a little bit of Mexico in the heart of Kitsilano at this beachy restaurant and bar. Soak up the sun on the west-facing patio and order up a round of margaritas and you just might convince yourself you’ve been transported to a Tiki bar south of the border. The funky fusion menu is full of So-Cal inspired cuisine like fish tacos, shrimp ‘po boy sandwiches and artisanal pizzas.

Aphrodite's Organic Cafe & Pie Shop

3605 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6R 1P2

This charming organic café serves up brunch seven days a week and a wholesome selection of seasonal comfort foods prepared with locally sourced ingredients. As the name suggests, the pies are not to be missed. Piecrusts are lovingly prepared with unbleached stoneground flour and organic cane sugar and then filled with organic seasonal fruit – peaches and fresh berries in the summer, apple and pumpkin in the fall. On the savoury side, potpies are available in both meat and veggie varieties. The menu also features a number of vegan and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions.

Bella Roma Pizzeria & Ristorante

4460 10th Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6R 2H9

You’ll be shouting Bellissima! after just a few bites at this local Italian joint on West 10th. Owner and executive chef Jimmy Khinda honed his culinary skills in Italy and is now a neighbourhood fixture, turning out authentic regionally-inspired pasta dishes and thin crust pizzas prepared in the on-site brick oven. A lively evening piano player adds to the European ambiance.

True Confections

3701 Broadway W, Vancouver, BC V6R 2B9

There’s no better spot in the ‘hood to satisfy your sugar cravings than this delicious dessert emporium. Tempt your sweet tooth with made-from-scratch cakes and pies, tarts, trifles and many more decadent edibles. Open late throughout the week, True Confections is an ideal spot to end your evening on a sweet note. We dare you to try and resist the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake.

Enigma Restaurant

4397 10th Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6R 2H6

How do you make high quality cuisine that’s both delicious and affordable? The mystery is solved at this Point Grey eatery. Enigma is a dining room that lives up to its name: it’s refined yet casual; stylish yet spacious. The dinner menu – which features an array of classic comfort foods alongside fresh salads, pastas and curry dishes – is served nightly until 10:30 pm.

Rajio Japanese Restaurant

3763 10th Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6R 2G5

This modern Japanese izakaya spot (owned by the folks behind Kingyo and Suika) has earned a following among local foodies thanks to its tasty selection of adventurous small plates. If you’re dining with a group, order a few different tapas-style dishes for sharing – the signature skewers are available in veggie, meat and seafood varieties. Those who like a little heat will get a kick out of the raw tako (octopus) wasabi and the kimchi-soaked tomato. Wash it all down with a glass of Rajio’s famous fruit punch (available with or without rum) served in a mini watermelon bowl.

Wolf & Hound Restaurant

3617 Broadway W, Vancouver, BC V6R 2B8

Crowd-pleasing pub grub and a rotating selection of local craft beers are a recipe for success at this Irish pub in Kitsilano. The diverse dinner menu serves up soups, stews, salads and sandwiches, as well as plenty of finger-foods and appetizer platters that are great for sharing. The vibe is comfortable and unpretentious and there’s plenty of seating for those hoping to snag a table for a larger group.

Browns Socialhouse

3651 10th Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6R 2G2

Dining with a large group? Everyone will find something to enjoy on the eclectic menu at this popular chain restaurant. The extensive list of sandwiches, pizzas, burgers and tacos will accommodate even the pickiest eaters.
