Post-bar eats on Vancouver's Granville Street

You’ve worked off some serious calories with a good solid couple of hours on the dance floor and you need more fuel in your system than a few vodka tonics. Grab some fresh air outside the club and head to one of these late-night eateries on Granville’s downtown strip to ensure a good night’s sleep and at least a little help towards a pain-free Sunday morning.

Fritz European Fry House

718 Davie St, Vancouver, BC V6Z 1B6

They may try to sell you on the health benefits of potatoes, but who’s kidding who here? This is deep-fried perfection in a cone. European-style, thin cut frites, double dipped in the fryer, generously salted and accompanied by the dip of your choice — everything from wasabi aioli to Indonesian peanut sauce to parmesan peppercorn. Looking for something a bit more substantial? You can’t go wrong with their poutine, either straight up or topped with savoury extras.

Mean Poutine

718 Nelson St, Vancouver, BC V6Z 1A8

Speaking of poutine, if this Quebecois staple is whispering your name, heed the call at Nelson Street’s Mean Poutine. The small window storefront turns out plateful after plateful of heaping masses of fries smothered in gravy and squeaky cheese curds. Get creative with their various topping options: buffalo chicken chunks, Italian meatballs and mushrooms, roast beef and bacon. They even have a veggie one with grilled peppers and veggie gravy. Don’t discount their dogs either. This is classic post-bar grub.

The Templeton Holdings Inc

1087 Granville St, Vancouver, BC V6Z 1L4

For some old-school nostalgia and some of the best shakes around, the Templeton — open till 1 am from Thursday to Sunday — is a good bet. Hearty vegetarian fare is also a late-night dinner option as you relax into a vinyl-covered booth and adjust your music tastes from club beats to classic rock or 1950s rockabilly with their table-side jukebox selections. Breakfast ends at 3 pm so if that’s what you’re in the mood for, consider coming back the following morning — quality food and large portions will be just the remedy you’re looking for.

Basil Pasta Bar

A-636 Davie St, Vancouver, BC V6B 2G5

Carbs! The party girl or boy’s best friend. And Basil Pasta Bar — open till 2 am on weekends — lets you have it exactly how you want it. Choose your pasta, sauce, protein, veggies and garnish and they’ll whip you up a quick late-night meal you’ll be grateful for for only $7.95. Too many decisions?
