La Fiesta Cafe

Though we haven't broken out the scale to verify it, La Fiesta café’s claim to “the Biggest Burrito North of Mexico” seems like a fair one. This mammoth Mexican treat features a 12-inch flour tortilla stuffed to bursting ... with a little extra added for good measure. Regularly priced at around $10, it’s a good deal but for even more bang for your buck go for the daily $5.49 burrito special.

Restaurante La Tortilla Mexicana

910 Esquimalt Road, Victoria, BC V9A 3M6

Authentic Mexican flavours, corn tortillas made fresh to order and a relaxed family atmosphere keep the locals coming back to this friendly restaurant. The varied menu also features flautas (crispy rolled corn tacos), huaraches (deep-fried tortillas with toppings), empanadas and a selection of rellenos (stuffed and roasted chile peppers). If you can manage it, save some room for the sweet and creamy Mexican Flan for dessert.

Puerto Vallarta Amigos

When you find yourself on the bustling Fisherman’s Wharf craving something with a little more kick than the usual fish and chips, head to Puerto Vallarta Amigos. You can’t miss the location on a festively painted houseboat where the food comes fast and fresh with a waterfront view at no extra charge. The Baja fish tacos are a house specialty, but there are plenty of other Mexican classics on hand to satisfy all appetites.

Victoria suffered a culinary loss when the popular downtown restaurant Cafe Mexico was destroyed by fire. But Mexican-food fans can find solace (and some great eats) at MexiGo, the restaurant’s casual spinoff eatery. You can tuck into tasty taquitos, quesadillas, chimichangas and all your favourite Mexican staples, served fast and fresh.
