Slices of pie heaven in Edmonton

Who doesn’t enjoy a buttery, flaky pastry dough filled with sweet, delicious toppings? Whether they’re filled with fruits or creams, topped with meringue, streusel crumble or a fancier woven lattice pie crust or served with a side of ice cream or a cup of coffee, you’ll love each and every one of these varieties found right here in Edmonton.

The Bothy Wine & Whiskey Bar

5482 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB T6H 4J8

Fancy a banoffee pie? The Bothy serves this authentic English dessert pie only at their Southside location. Made with bananas, cream and toffee, you’ll love every bite. And if you really want to do it up, order a digestif with your pie - I suggest a snifter of Remy Martin XO.

Vi's For Pies

13408 Stony Plain Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 3P5

Located in the west end of Edmonton, this pie house will not disappoint. Vi’s makes every type of pie imaginable, so wear your elastic-waist pants when you go. My personal favourites vary depending on my mood -- pumpkin is always good during the Thanksgiving time of year, chocolate pecan pie doesn’t disappoint ever, and the banana cream pie on a summer’s day is nice and light. They also make gluten-free pies.

Duchess Bake Shop

10720 124 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5M 0H1

This French patisserie makes the best sour cream cherry pie this side of anywhere. The crust is buttery and flaky, the sour cream and cherry combination are perfectly paired, and, if you add a slice of French vanilla ice cream, you’ll be in heaven. They even sell the Duchess Bake Shop Cookbook to make your own pies at home.

Artistic Bake Shop Ltd

6820 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6H 2L6

This shop has been family owned and operated since the mid-1960s. Their specialty is the traditional Bavarian pretzels they make fresh, as well as other breads and pastries. They change up their pie menu seasonally to reflect the flavours of the earth, so expect anything from pumpkin to apple and everything in between.

Hathaways Diner

13225 132 St Nw, Edmonton, AB T5L 1R9

This diner is a very unassuming little restaurant. Don’t let that fool you - this is where you’ll have one of the best pies ever, since they make them all from scratch. From traditional to cream pies, they have you covered. Nothing says comfort food more than a homemade apple pie à la mode.

Fife N' Dekel

9114 51 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 5L8

They have more than a dozen varieties and are reasonably priced (whether you order a slice or a whole pie ... we won’t judge!). There’s something about blending traditional pie flavours with sour cream that gives it that je ne sais quoi. Sour cream strawberry rhubarb or sour cream blueberry are both phenomenal. Try the pecan pie for something a little extra sweet.

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate. It’s no surprise this drink was originally dubbed the “elixir of the gods.” Regardless of the variety you select, or whether you opt for the simplest hot chocolate on the menu, all I can say is ... don’t forget the marshmallows.
You don’t have to travel to Paris to have a true fine-dining experience; you can enjoy an upscale dinner, complete with a five-course meal and fine wine, right here at home. Victoria is a fine-dining destination with an excellent reputation – where talented chefs enjoy crafting delicious gourmet dishes from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Paired with a nice cup of coffee or topped with a scoop of ice cream, pie is unbeatable comfort food. And yet it faces stiff competition from cupcakes as the city’s dessert of choice. Well, pie is fighting back with old fashioned deliciousness as well as new and tantalizing flavours.
