Top vegetarian restaurants in Edmonton

Following a vegetarian diet doesn’t have to mean only ordering salads when eating out. Whether you always abstain from meat or simply want to have a meal heavy on the veggies, these Edmonton vegetarian restaurants offer up dishes that are more than just rabbit food.

Cafe Mosaics

1
10844 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2B3

Located on Whyte Avenue, this vegetarian and vegan restaurant offers a ton of awesome, inventive burgers, plus salads, burritos, pasta, appetizers, pizza and more. They even have vegan chicken wings! The burgers range from Portobello mushroom to a 100 per cent vegan cheeseburger to a passion curry burger. For breakfast, they serve up eggs, tofu scrambles, breakfast burritos and pancakes, plus a kamikaze breakfast bowl that changes daily. Wash it all down with some organic fresh juice or Thai iced tea.

Loma House Vegetarian Restaurant

2
9142 23 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6N 1H9

This vegetarian restaurant also offers vegan options on its large menu. Dishes with meat substitutes are made with all-natural ingredients, such as mushroom stems and soy protein. There are plenty of curries, spring rolls and pot stickers to try out, not to mention dumplings and dim sum. Try spicy eggplant or imperial kung pao “chicken” if you’re feeling adventurous, or go for a bento box if you crave variety.

Padmanadi Vegetarian Restaurant

3
10740 101 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 2S3

This vegan-only menu combines Thai, Indonesian, Indian and Chinese cuisine, resulting in a tasty Asian smorgasbord of vegan delights. The menu features vegan versions of familiar favourites, like chicken fingers made from mock “chicken” and drumsticks made from bean curd. There are a lot of tofu-based dishes on the menu but also intriguing items that should appeal to non-vegans, such as spicy coconut eggplant.

Noorish Cafe

4
8440 109 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 1E2

Everything about this place screams “hippie.” But in the best way possible. The owners run a yoga studio in the same building, the servers are trying to go paperless – and then there’s the food. Oh. My. God. I never knew I could be so satisfied without meat. The Buddha Bowl is a heavenly green curry swimming in a bowl of quinoa. Everything is vegetarian or vegan, and most dishes are gluten-free. It’s so good, you won’t even notice the lack of meat.

Veggie Garden Restaurant

5
10582 100 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 2R6

This restaurant warns customers as soon as they walk in the door that they don’t serve meat (in case the name didn’t make that clear already, I guess). But even carnivores swear they don’t miss the meat here; they see it as a chance to fill up on their daily quota of veggies. The cilantro cakes with mango sauce are a popular choice and the faux beef that appears in some dishes is nice and lean.

Remedy Cafe

6
10279 Jasper Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 1X8

Most of the dishes at the downtown Jasper Ave location are meat-free or can be made meat-less. The chana masala wrap uses chickpeas for protein; you can also order a vegan chicken chana wrap or vegan coconut chicken, made with chunks of soy. And, the vegetarian and vegan-friendly samosas always hit the spot. The menu is colour coded and labelled to make it super easy to know exactly what contains meat and what items are vegetarian or vegan friendly.
