While the sandwiches change daily (they like to keep the food fresh and simple), you can always count on a great offering at Elm and you can check out their Twitter feed for a heads up on selections. Plus, they do catering, too!

Farrow

A little hole in the wall shop on 109 Street in Edmonton’s Garneau neighbourhood, Farrow serves up mind-blowingly awesome gourmet sandwiches (and they make pretty fabulous cookies, too). Their four sandwich selections rotate and generally run for a couple days at a time, but are always creative (and entertainingly named) and are sure to cause serious cravings. Sandwich & Sons

With locations downtown and on the west end, Sandwich & Sons is a deli-style joint that serves six signature sandwich selections with homemade chips. Everything from mustard to pickles is made in-house, and they offer catering, too. Their Montreal smoked meat sandwich is dubbed “the real deal” and their grilled cheese (old cheddar, smoked gouda, monetary jack and artichoke spread on sourdough) will make you salivate.

Dovetail Delicatessen

A beautiful little lunch place on 124 Street, Dovetail Delicatessen is Drift Food Truck’s home and is a community-focused sandwich shop. Offering a different sandwich feature every day, the Daily Roast is always a slow-roasted, succulent meat, served on a fresh, beautiful bun with simple toppings. The service is spectacular and the food is pure, delicious comfort. They also have a super yummy carrot ginger cake and some homemade salads, like Greek pasta, chickpea and broccoli salad. Plus, their summer peach salsa is heavenly.

Urban Diner

An old school style diner in High Street, just off 124 Street, Urban Diner provides the ultimate classic sandwich selection: diner meatloaf, Ruben, grilled cheese, beef dip, pulled pork, clubhouse and the Monte Cristo. While all of their sandwiches are mouthwatering, the Monte Cristo is the most phenomenal sandwich ever (egg dipped and served with jam and sour cream).

Highlevel Diner

A community staple that’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, Highlevel Diner serves up daily meat and vegetarian sandwich specials, along with a clubhouse sandwich and the grilled chicken and cheddar sandwich. Nothing will prepare you for the mouthwatering succulence of the egg dipped grilled chicken and cheddar sandwich stuffed with fresh, house made chicken salad – it’s incredible!

If you’re downtown around 104 Street and Jasper Avenue and looking for a great sandwich, Blue Plate Diner will kill your craving beautifully. In addition to offering an exceptional chicken and smoked cheddar club sandwich, a jalapeño grilled cheese and a barbecue meatloaf sandwich, the Blue Plate’s long-standing champion is their open-faced tuna melt. This particular sandwich has been on the menu forever and is always a popular, satisfying choice.
